What is a Sr Technical Designer?

Sr Technical Designers are experienced professionals who bridge the gap between design and engineering in industries like fashion, gaming, or software. They are responsible for interpreting design concepts and translating them into technical specifications that can be used for production or development. Their duties often include creating detailed technical drawings, overseeing prototypes, ensuring quality standards, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. Senior Technical Designers typically have several years of experience, advanced knowledge of relevant software, and strong problem-solving skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Sr Technical Designer?

To thrive as a Sr Technical Designer, you need advanced knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking, and fit, typically gained through a degree in fashion design or a related field and several years of industry experience. Expertise in CAD software (such as Gerber or CLO 3D), technical specification creation, and familiarity with PLM systems are essential. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and problem-solving abilities help you collaborate with cross-functional teams and resolve design challenges.
