GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Program Director/Senior Program Director the Assistant Martial Arts Instructor will assist in providing martial arts instruction using YMCA guidelines to all individuals enrolled in the appropriate classes and will promote the general safety of all participants.
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience Requirements:
  1. Minimum age of 21
  2. Minimum of three years' experience
  3. Black belt level

Physical/Mental Requirements:
  1. Must be able to frequently perform the following physical activities at a certification-level required for climbing wall instructors; climb, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for extended periods of time, walk, lift and carry up to 35 pounds, communicate verbally and have adequate hearing
  2. Must be able to visually see and instruct class participants and have the ability to demonstrate respective field skills
  3. Must possess ability to remain alert and maintain concentration for long periods of time to ensure safety of participants
  4. Must possess ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
  5. Must be able to show initiative in the absence of supervision
  6. Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner
  7. Must be able to handle questions/concerns and resolve conflicts in a courteous and professional manner
  8. Must maintain a neat and professional appearance

Job Requirements:
  1. Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision and values
  2. Must attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire
  3. Complete First Aid in accordance with Conditions of Employment
  4. Understand and abide-by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association
  5. Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Assisting the instruction and evaluation of class participants in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
  2. Assisting in answering participant and parent questions as needed.
  3. Assisting in conveying information on martial arts programs and schedules and as appropriate, referring students and parents to other programs.
  4. Responsible for building effective, authentic relationships with students, parents, volunteers and staff.
  5. Gathering feedback from members and sharing with supervisor to improve service.
  6. Assisting with the organization and clean-up of class equipment. Reporting any facility or equipment irregularities, unsafe conditions or feedback to supervisor verbally and in writing.
  7. Responsible for the safety and well-being of participants.
  8. Following and enforcing all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
  9. Being knowledgeable and prepared to implement emergency procedures.
  10. Reporting all incidents/accidents on the appropriate form as required and provide to supervisor within 24 hours of event.
  11. Attending all required training sessions and scheduled meetings.
  12. Maintaining prompt hours and follow established procedures for absences.
  13. Supporting Strong Community Campaign fundraising efforts.
  14. All other duties as assigned.
