The EPIC EDI Developer is an experienced developer with the capability to work on and provide technical leadership for small to mediumsized projects from an implementation perspective. The role is responsible for designing and developing EDI mappings, interpreting implementation and companion guides related to EDI transactions and exchanges, and supporting industrystandard healthcare integrations.
Reporting directly to the Manager, the EPIC EDI Developer is a key member of the Mass General Brigham Health Plan (MGBHP) Application and EBusiness Integration team. The primary responsibilities of this role include the design, development, build, testing, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of new and existing Epic interfaces. The position also provides training and support to end users and ensures that integration standards and data flows between Epic and other systems are consistent, standardized, and compliant with MGBHP policies and procedures.
This role is responsible for the overall design, development, maintenance, and support of all standard (HIPAA X12 and HL7) EDI and custom (proprietary) EDI processes used within the MGBHP EDI infrastructure.
Essential Functions
-Leads business and systems requirements analysis efforts including impact analyses on existing systems, to develop design and systems specifications
-Manage Epic Interface Build within the Epic Bridges application
-Perform interface application testing from test scripts as necessary
-Engage in activities including analysis, review, testing, troubleshooting, and design of new features and fixes related to Epic Upgrades
-Partake in internal integration workgroups focused on the maintenance, build, optimization, and behavior of active and future interfaces
-Participates in interface-focused cross-team meetings with the MGBHP application teams to ensure communication and collaboration
-Programming including Visual Studio, ASP.NET, C#, Microsoft BizTalk Server development for HIPAA EDI development.
-Programming, including writing T-SQL in SQL Server and SSIS packages, which support the Vendor Interfaces.
-Utilizes expertise with integrated healthcare systems to provide technical guidance to the development and/or support team.
-Identifies, troubleshoots and resolves problems related to business processes and applications.
-Analyzes business and system requirements, including impact analyses on existing systems, to develop design and systems specifications.
-Tracks and monitors problem tickets to insure timely resolution.
-Reviews and analyzes system logs and Microsoft and third-party management products to preemptively detect and correct system issues. Performs capacity planning to ensure adequate availability and performance.
-Communicates status, coordinates and escalates issues as needed.
-Participates in change management, disaster recovery and production support operations.
-Coordinates and leads technical support and software upgrades with in-house staff and outside vendors to ensure MGBHP applications are performing effectively.


Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree required; experience can be considered in lieu of a degree


Experience

  • At least 5-7 years of application development experience required
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant working experience with EPIC integration and working on EDI transactions processing, design, development, and maintenance in Microsoft technologies platform highly preferred
  • HL7 certification or equivalent experience strongly preferred
  • Understanding of BizTalk Server and the areas of BizTalk-based applications related to EDI transactions processing like maps, pipelines schemas, orchestrations etc. preferred
  • Knowledge of QNXT data model in all the critical modules like Group, Member, Provider, Claims etc. preferred
  • Understanding of health insurance business applications and data model preferred
  • Familiarity with Business Analysis and System Integration related business processes preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development of EPIC integration and EDI solutions, workflows, business workflows to meet business requirements
