UDR is seeking qualified candidates for a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator opportunity in Charleston, West Virginia.

Core Responsibilities
  • Database Architecture & Design: Architecting, configuring, and installing scalable Microsoft SQL Server database modules, data models, and process flows.
  • Performance Tuning: Conducting advanced query optimization, indexing strategies, and database performance baseline tuning.
  • High Availability & Disaster Recovery (HADR): Designing and implementing robust backup/restore strategies and high-availability solutions like Always On Availability Groups.
  • Cloud & Hybrid Management: Maintaining cloud-based database environments, specifically Azure SQL Managed Instances, Azure Storage, and hybrid database environments.
  • Security & Compliance: Establishing secure data access controls, administering encryption, and conducting compliance audits.
  • Automation: Writing PowerShell, Python, or T-SQL scripts to automate routine administrative tasks and system patching.
  • Collaboration & Leadership: Partnering with application developers, infrastructure teams, and project managersโ€”frequently within Agile/Scrum delivery structuresโ€”while mentoring junior database technicians.
Technical Skills & Qualifications
  • Database Platforms: Microsoft SQL Server (multiple versions) and Azure SQL/Managed Instance.
  • Performance Optimization: Expert level knowledge of Execution Plans, Profiler, Extended Events, and DMVs.
  • Infrastructure Knowledge: Deep familiarity with Windows Server, Storage Area Networks (SAN), and active directory security concepts.
  • Scripting languages: High proficiency in T-SQL, PowerShell, and shell scripting (Python is highly preferred).
Preferred Experience & Tools
  • Data Integration: Developing ETL workflows using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) or Azure Data Factory.
  • Reporting & Analytics: Creating dashboards and monitoring metrics via Power BI or SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
  • DevOps Practice: Experience integrating data platforms with CI/CD pipelines and utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or legacy MCSE Data Management and Analytics.
Requirements
  • Senior SQL Server Database Administrator must have a minimum of five years of experience with the operation, maintenance, and implementation of Microsoft SQL Server database (SQL Server 2008 and higher). This experience must include the candidate being proficient in T SQL and package creation (stored procedures) and utilization.
  • Senior SQL Server Database Administrator must have a minimum of five years of experience with the creation of databases and database primary objects in SQL Server.
  • Senior SQL Server Database Administrator must have a minimum of five years of experience migrating prior versions of SQL Server to SQL Server 20 I 2 on Windows servers. This must include the conversion of DTS packages to SSIS.
  • Senior SQL Server Database Administrator must have a minimum of five years of experience installing, implementing, and monitoring SSIS and SSAS for SQL Server 2008.
  • Senior SQL Server Database Administrator must have a minimum of five years of experience in command line Data Definition Language (DDL) operations and scripting.
  • Senior SQL Server Database Administrator must have a minimum of five years of experience in backup and recovery of SQL Server databases.
