Job description

VCI is currently seeking a full-time Senior Civil Engineer in New Orleans, Louisiana. This position entails providing A/E services for the Department of Energy associated with the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). This role ensures quality, safety, and compliance across every phase of design. Ideal candidates bring strong organizational skills, technical expertise, and a proactive mindset to resolve issues. This position is primarily in VCI's office in Harahan, LA with site visits to the SPR's four cavern locations in Texas and Louisiana required several times a year.
Required Qualification:
  • Masters Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and 10 years of experience or a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and 15 years of experience
  • Professional Engineer registration/licensure
  • Pass a background check required for PIV badging
  • Possess a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineering/Design experience in oil and gas

Required Responsibilities include:
  • Serves as the lead civil engineer -of-record responsible for oil and gas design packages including the development of civil/structural engineering specifications and civil/structural drawings.
  • Prepare technical designs with other members of a multidiscipline team in compliance with established design criteria, industry codes, environmental guidelines, client specifications, and quality assurance program.
  • Understand, develop, and review project drawings, calculations, specifications, and other engineering deliverables that are driven by the project or client.
  • Engineering, design and certification of foundations for large equipment with associated access platforms, pipe supports, roads, etc. is the primary function of this position.
  • Field verification, condition assessment, and inspections will be conducted as needed to further the design.
  • Assist in preparing cost estimates.
  • Review contractor submittals and RFIs; perform technical evaluations of vendor proposals.
  • Reviews plans, specifications and other documents to identify discrepancies, code violations, improper materials or techniques, and substandard or poor-quality workmanship.
  • Attends weekly meetings to update the client on project status, schedule, discuss problems, and resolve issues.

Required Skills
  • Must be able to communicate fluently in English.
  • Must be proficient with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, and Bluebeam Software.
  • Efficient use of the Microsoft Suite of Services, including SharePoint, Teams, Word, Outlook, and Excel skills.
  • Deliver contract requirements in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions, wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment, walk long distances, stand for long periods, lift construction materials to access inspections, climb ladders and scaffolding, navigate typical civil construction site obstacles, and drive site provided utility vehicles.
