Job description

As a Planner - Transportation you will be responsible for effectively and efficiently routing North America (NA) Domestic freight into/out of Wesco facilities using our TMS systems. You will work in a fast-paced environment as part of our NA transportation team. You will work closely with other stakeholders including operations, buyers, vendors & carriers (TL, LTL, parcel, ocean) to drive continuous improvement, improve service and reduce costs. You will be responsible for improving actual to budget expenses, general reporting, maintaining relationships and holding carriers accountable for both service and cost.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm ET or 10:00am-7:00pm ET, to best support business needs.
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for daily load planning, optimization, routing, consolidation, and reporting of all transportation modes (TL, LTL, parcel, etc.) within WESCO Distribution Inc s NA Transportation activities.
  • Monitor and troubleshoots outbound and inbound shipment and offer solutions to ensure timely delivery.
  • Responsible for negotiating spot freight rates and dispatching out-of-network truck shipments.
  • Manage carrier partners to ensure daily execution of all movements, review performance and develop improvements to the supply chain based on business priorities.
  • Serve as a key operational contact for warehousing sites and carrier partners.
  • Utilize technology, analytics, and creative thinking to optimize, route, and plan movement & consolidation of freight in a dynamic environment of supply and demand.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to special projects and supplier / vendor presentations.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree - Business, Logistics, or Supply Chain is required.
  • 1 year required, 3 years preferred of transportation, logistics or supply chain.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate well across all levels of the organization. Must have excellent customer service skills with the ability to work with both internal and external customers. Must be able to make decisions independently and recommend viable solutions to various problems and issues.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Blue Yonder, Mercury Gate or similar Transportation Management Systems is desirable.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office required {Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint}, transportation specific preferred) and the ability to learn new software
  • Proven problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to think outside the box with a sense of urgency.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivated
  • Able to work well with multiple cross functional teams.
  • Ability to lead, influence and collaborate with peers.
  • 0-3+ years of transportation, analytics, or supply chain experience.
