OVERVIEW:

The Assistant Designer supports the Design team in development of the seasonal product line. The Assistant Designer will be responsible for a number of tasks on a daily basis to help facilitate the execution of the design time and action calendar. The Assistant Designer's role, under the supervision Designer/Sr. Designer, will be multi-faceted: working on design and research, in addition to administrative and operational tasks such as organizing tech packs, trims, and fabrics.
The ideal candidate for this role has an eye for fashion and trend, demonstrates curiosity, a can-do attitude and can adapt to a fast paced environment.
Design Process
  • Responsible for administration and follow up of product design process to include preparation of technical packages and presentation boards, understanding of PDM process, email correspondence, etc.
  • Communicate and partner with Associate Designer/Designer to ensure updates are communicated to the BOM/Tech Packs. Manage design oriented PLM information and input.
  • Participate and attend all fittings until approved fit. Take detailed notes and follow up as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation for all critical design meetings. This includes building/updating seasonal product/trend/color boards and CADs, organizing updates to design sketch boards assisting in building the tools to communicate the designers vision at a store/fixture level and assisting Associate Designers in room setup.
  • Communicates with vendors & follow through on sample development.
  • Execute the lab dip process

Product Development Time and Action Execution
  • Assist in executing key tasks throughout the time and action development calendar.
  • Maintain organizational support to the team. Document and preserve all illustrations, design layouts, and design development information for future reference.
  • Maintain all current design information: color, prints, trims, reference tears, etc. for usage across the department.

Market Research & Analysis
  • Participate in and complete research that will assist the team in creating the seasonal strategy. This research includes following seasonal runaway trends, style blogs/magazines, aspirational brands and online influencers relevant to product category.
  • Demonstrate an eye for trend and understanding of fit by completing market research (online, instore, etc.) and sharing ideas on the insights driven from the research.
  • Assist in shopping retail and designer markets to seek new & innovative ideas. Conducts raw material research and fabric / trim market research.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Merchandising, or related field
  • 1 - 3 Years of experience - Previous involvement in the design development process required, inclusive of internship
