Job Description
Under the direction of the Vice President of Family and Youth Development, the Director of Athletic Operations is responsible for the direct supervision of the Manager of Basketball and League Operations, the Assistant Director of Programs, and all aspects of developmental youth and adult recreational sports, leagues, clinics, and tournaments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Education/Sports Management or a related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years' experience in sports management.
  • Must be able to present oneself professionally and communicate effectively with peers, staff, and members.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certified within first 3 months.

Essential Functions
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
• Directly responsible for the successful management of athletics operations, monitoring program quality, engaging with families, staff recruitment and oversight, and ensuring a safe environment in all venues and for all participants.
• Directly oversee, schedule, and evaluate the full-time exempt Manager of Basketball and League Operations and the full-time exempt Assistant Director of Programs.
• With support from the Manager of Basketball and League Operations, create new court and field-based sports classes and league opportunities for youth and adults.
• Support the Assistant Director of Programs in creating new offerings within the Bouncing Bears Kid Zone and other related movement-based programs, such as dance and parkour.
• Develop and maintain departmental budget.
• Recruit, train, schedule, terminate, and evaluate volunteers, year-round part-time staff, and seasonal part-time staff including basketball officials and department contractors.
• Effectively develop schedules for programs and member gym usage through a variety of programs and special event opportunities.
• Partner with Y Special Needs Department for YSN sports and movement-based programs.
• Organize summer sports programs and camps and support sports programming within Camp Mini and Camp Y-Ki per the request of those Camp Directors.
• Oversight and development of sports and movement-based private lessons, such as basketball, volleyball, pickleball, gymnastics, and parkour.
• Oversight of the sports and movement-based birthday party business ensuring the highest quality experiences from the booking process to the actual event.
• Communicate effectively with peers, staff, participants, and parents.
• Collaborate with community organizations
• Spearhead special events and collaborate with other directors on the planning of Community and Family Events hosted by the YMCA that have a focus on sports and movement, such as the Family Field Day.
• Lead or assist in Sports and movement-based classes as needed.
• Communicate with vendors of sports programs and support in the agreement process.
• Maintain clean facility areas with the support of the facilities and cleaning teams
• Monitor facility and all sports and movement-based programming for risk management.
• Maintain a good public relationship with community sports agencies, youth, and parents.
• Maintain certifications in Red Cross safety and first aid, including AED as well as adult/child CPR.
• Attend all professional staff meetings to keep informed of all activities at the YMCA.
• Typical workweek is Monday-Friday, needs of the position may dictate the hours, depending on the time of year, when leagues are running, and when Y-Ball is in season. May swap out one weekday with a Saturday during Y-Ball season (as approved by the Vice President of Family & Youth Development) as needed to ensure quality control during high-volume weekends.
• Perform other duties as designated by the supervisor.
• Job Description may be changed at any time by supervisor.
Employees and volunteers who directly supervise consumers/youth will:
• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
• Attend required abuse risk management training.
• Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
• Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
