Job Summary:
The Logistics Manager is responsible for leading all shipping, transportation, and logistics activities for Allied Fabricators' structural steel and pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) manufacturing operations. This position ensures fabricated steel, secondary components, cladding materials, and project-specific shipments are delivered safely, accurately, and on schedule to support customer commitments throughout North America.
The Logistics Manager serves as the primary link between Production, Project Management, Shipping, Inventory Control, and transportation providers to coordinate the efficient movement of materials from manufacturing through final delivery. This role is responsible for load planning, transportation management, freight optimization, shipment scheduling, carrier relationships, logistics personnel, and overall delivery performance while ensuring compliance with safety, transportation, and customer requirements.
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate daily with Production Managers, Supervisors, and Project Managers to ensure fabricated steel, PEMB components, and all related hardware are shipped in accordance with customer schedules and project milestones.
  • Develop shipment schedules that align with fabrication, welding, blasting, painting, and final assembly completion dates.
  • Coordinate project-specific load sequencing to ensure materials arrive at customer job sites in the proper order for erection and installation.
  • Develop load plans that maximize trailer utilization while ensuring product protection, transportation compliance, and safe loading practices.
  • Review production schedules and shipment priorities daily to identify risks that may impact customer delivery commitments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams regarding shipment requirements, customer specifications, special loading instructions, and transportation constraints.
  • Utilize Strumis and other company systems to manage shipment status, inventory visibility, shipping transactions, and project delivery requirements.
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts to resolve production, inventory, transportation, or customer issues that may delay shipments.
  • Provide regular shipment status updates, transportation timelines, and delivery information.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with freight brokers, transportation carriers, and logistics partners to ensure reliable service and competitive pricing.
  • Monitor freight costs and transportation performance while identifying opportunities for cost reduction and operational improvement.
  • Investigate shipping discrepancies, transportation claims, damaged freight, and delivery issues to determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • Ensure all shipping documentation, bills of lading, packing lists, certificates, and project documentation are accurate and complete.

Requirements
Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in logistics, transportation, shipping, supply chain, or operations management within a manufacturing, structural steel, construction materials, or heavy industrial environment.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, Business Administration, Transportation Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience managing logistics, shipping, warehouse, transportation, or material handling personnel.
  • Experience coordinating flatbed, step-deck, oversized, overweight, or specialized freight shipments preferred.
  • Experience supporting structural steel, pre-engineered metal building (PEMB), construction materials, or project-based manufacturing operations strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of transportation operations, freight management, load planning, carrier management, and logistics coordination.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations, transportation compliance requirements, oversized load permitting, and freight documentation.
  • Understanding of structural steel fabrication, production scheduling, material flow, and project-based manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Experience utilizing ERP systems, transportation management systems (TMS), inventory systems, and logistics software. Experience with Strumis or similar manufacturing ERP systems preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, reporting tools, and data analysis.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
  • Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with customers, transportation providers, freight brokers, and business partners.
  • Ability to work flexible hours when necessary to support customer delivery requirements, production schedules, and transportation deadlines.

Work Schedule:
  • Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
