Job description

Purpose within the Organization:
The athletics graphic designer student-worker position will aid the athletic communications staff in the promotion and coverage of athletics events on social media. The position will assist with the graphic design needs of some or all of GCU's 20 NCAA Division I sports.
Primary Responsibilities / Accountabilities / Essential Functions:
  • Assist in the creation of social media graphics for GCU Athletics platforms, including gameday, in-game updates, final scores, schedule graphics, recruiting content, promotional graphics and storytelling features.
  • Create graphics that support the promotion and coverage of GCU's 20 NCAA Division I sports while following athletics brand standards, sport-specific needs and platform best practices.
  • Work with athletics communications staff to develop graphics for Instagram, X, Facebook, website use, video boards and other digital platforms as needed.
  • Assist with creative planning for social media campaigns, theme nights, postseason coverage, signing days, award announcements and other major athletics initiatives.
  • Help brainstorm new graphic concepts, templates and visual storytelling ideas that increase engagement, promote student-athletes and strengthen the GCU Athletics brand.
  • Make timely edits and updates to graphics based on feedback from communications, marketing or sport staff.
  • Assist with organizing, archiving and maintaining graphic templates, brand assets, photos and project files for future use.
  • Support live event coverage by preparing graphics before, during or after games as assigned.
  • Collaborate with communications, social media, marketing, photography and video staff to ensure consistent messaging and visual identity across platforms.
  • Stay current on sports design trends, social media trends and best practices in college athletics creative content.
  • Assist athletics social media staff in other related tasks as assigned.

Equipment Used and Responsibility:
  • Strong familiarity and knowledge of graphic design software and platforms, including Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Basic understanding of social media platforms, including Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube, and how graphic needs may vary by platform.
  • Ability to work within established brand guidelines, including proper use of logos, colors, fonts, photo treatments and visual identity standards.
  • Comfortable working with digital photography, templates, layered files, shared drives and athletics creative assets.
  • Responsible for maintaining organized project files and naming conventions to help athletics staff easily access and repurpose creative content.
  • Ability to manage multiple design requests, meet deadlines and adjust priorities in a fast-paced athletics environment.
  • Attention to detail in spelling, grammar, player names, statistics, records, dates, opponents and sport-specific terminology.
  • Basic understanding of sports information, game schedules, statistics and athletics storytelling is preferred.
  • Passion for sports, college athletics, social media and creative content is preferred.
  • Must be able to receive feedback, make revisions and collaborate professionally with athletics staff, coaches and fellow student-workers.

Experience and Education:
Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:
  • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor's program or Master's program.
  • Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.

You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.
Pay Rate: Minimum Wage
Anticipated End Date: June 30, 2027
