JOB DESCRIPTION
Fox Digital Video Platform team seeks a Sr Video Player Engineer, Roku to design and implement core video player features for consumer facing applications across all of Fox's networks . FOX is responsible for delivering the largest LIVE events on TV - including the 2023 Super Bowl, MLB World Series, FIFA World Cup, Election Coverage, WWE Smackdown, NFL Divisional Championships, Primetime Emmy Awards and countless more. This role is essential to providing our digital audience a great experience every time they press play and will be key to developing industry leading playback performance. As a video player engineer, you will be working in an extremely fast paced environment where you'll be expected to take ownership of building video playback solutions and provide deep technical expertise across the entire software delivery process.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Work closely with Engineering/Product/Project Management and Backend Technology Services teams to build video player features that contribute to FOX video streaming initiatives.
  • Conduct the design, architecture and implementation of player features on Roku
  • Work on performance, scalability, security, architecture and engineering best practices
  • Provide technical specifications and documentation
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver software using agile methodologies
  • Willingness to stay up-to-date with the latest in emerging technologies/trends on Roku

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Excellent programming skills in BrightScript
  • Deep understanding of SceneGraph framework and task/render thread optimization
  • Demonstrable knowledge of building responsive user experiences
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, unit testing and end-end testing
  • Git, SVN, Jenkins, Docker, Agile methodologies
  • Excellent documentation skills, UML diagrams a plus.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with an ability to work in a highly collaborative environment

NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEALBREAKER
  • Experience with video streaming technologies (HLS)
  • Experience with video QoE metrics, ABR algorithms, Roku Media Player
  • Experience with analytics platforms (Conviva, Segment)
  • Accomplish engineering and organization missions by completing related results as needed.
  • Support and develop software engineers by providing coaching and educational opportunities.
  • Participate in Tier 3 on-call rotation support for the services you and your team develop and operate.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $143,000.00-161,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
