What is a Sponsored Residential?

A Sponsored Residential provider is an individual or family that opens their home to support adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities. They provide care, supervision, and assistance with daily living activities in a family-like setting. Sponsored Residential services are designed to offer a personalized, community-based alternative to more traditional group home settings, with the goal of promoting independence and inclusion for the individuals served.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Sponsored Residential?

To thrive as a Sponsored Residential provider, you need a solid understanding of caregiving, basic health and safety protocols, and experience or certifications in supporting individuals with disabilities, often requiring completion of provider training and background checks. Familiarity with documentation systems, medication administration procedures, and state-specific regulatory platforms is typically necessary. Compassion, patience, strong communication, and problem-solving abilities help providers build trust and effectively advocate for residents. These skills and qualifications ensure safe, person-centered care and compliance with legal and quality standards in a home-based setting.

What are some common challenges faced by Sponsored Residential, and how can they be addressed?

Sponsored Residential providers often face challenges such as balancing the diverse needs of individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities while managing documentation and regulatory compliance. Effective communication with support coordinators and regular training can help address these challenges. Providers also benefit from building strong, trusting relationships with the individuals in their care, which enhances quality of life and smooths daily routines. Staying organized and actively seeking support from agency staff can make the role more rewarding and manageable.

Job description

Live-In Sponsored Residential Provider – Fredericksburg, VA
$750 Weekly Stipend + Free Housing & Utilities | Immediate Opening

Home Sweet Home Residential Care is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and mature Live-In Sponsored Residential Provider to support 1–2 adult female residents in a beautiful, spacious 5-bedroom home in the Fredericksburg area.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who is a natural caregiver and would enjoy creating a warm, stable, family-style home environment while helping individuals with developmental disabilities live meaningful and fulfilling lives in their community.
This position may be especially appealing to a mature or older adult, empty nester, experienced caregiver, or someone looking for a long-term live-in opportunity where housing and major household expenses are provided.
Compensation & Benefits
  • $750 weekly stipend

  • Private room with private bathroom and free room and board
  • Electricity included
  • Cable and Wi-Fi included
  • Yard maintenance included
  • Access to a company vehicle for resident-related transportation or mileage reimbursement when applicable
  • All required training provided
  • Ongoing support from Home Sweet Home Residential Care
  • Opportunity to live in a beautiful 5-bedroom home
  • Family members or children may be permitted to live in the home on a case-by-case basis

  • Any household member age 18 or older must successfully complete required background checks
What You'll Do
As the Live-In Sponsored Residential Provider, you will help create a safe, comfortable and welcoming home while supporting 1–2 female residents with their individual needs.
Responsibilities may include:
  • Providing supervision, guidance and companionship
  • Helping residents maintain daily routines and develop greater independence
  • Supporting personal care needs when required
  • Assisting with meals, household routines and medication-related responsibilities
  • Providing or coordinating transportation to appointments, activities and community outings
  • Encouraging residents to participate in activities they enjoy
  • Maintaining required documentation and completing simple computer-based records
  • Communicating with the Home Sweet Home Residential Care team regarding resident needs
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and respectful home environment
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is patient, dependable, nurturing and genuinely enjoys helping others.
You do not need to come to us already knowing everything about sponsored residential services. We provide the required training.

However, you must:
  • Be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Have basic computer skills and be comfortable completing simple electronic documentation
  • Be dependable and able to maintain a consistent home environment
  • Have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Be able to successfully complete required background checks and screenings
  • Be willing to complete all required training
  • Understand that this is a live-in position, not a traditional shift-based caregiving job
  • Be prepared to make a minimum 18-month commitment

The Right Fit Matters
We have an immediate placement opportunity, but we are looking for the right long-term provider, not simply the first available applicant.
Sponsored residential care works best when the provider genuinely enjoys creating a home, building relationships and helping residents become as independent as possible.
If you are naturally caring, enjoy having a home filled with purpose, and are looking for a stable opportunity where housing, utilities and other major living expenses are included, we would love to hear from you.
Job Type: Live-In Sponsored Residential Provider
Location: Fredericksburg, Virginia
Stipend: $750 per week
Commitment: Minimum 18 months
To Apply
Please submit your resume and a brief statement explaining why a live-in sponsored residential provider position appeals to you and why you believe you would be a good fit for this type of home.
