Job description

Lighthouse Lab Services is seeking an experienced Histotechnologist with strong grossing expertise to join a high-volume reference laboratory in San Diego, CA. This position plays a critical role in specimen processing, ensuring accurate and timely tissue grossing in compliance with CLIA, CAP, and laboratory quality standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, reliable during overnight operations, and thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Shift: Monday- Friday 11p-7:30a

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens according to established laboratory protocols.

  • Accurately describe, measure, and section tissue samples for histologic processing.

  • Maintain specimen integrity and ensure proper labeling, documentation, and workflow tracking.

  • Adhere to CLIA, CAP, and institutional safety and quality standards.

  • Collaborate closely with pathologists, histotechnologists, and laboratory staff to ensure efficient turnaround times.

  • Participate in equipment maintenance, quality control procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Provide support and mentorship to junior staff as needed during overnight operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or equivalent.

  • Minimum 1 year of histology grossing experience required.

  • ASCP Histology certification (HT or HTL) or other relevant histology credentials preferred.

  • Working knowledge of laboratory safety, specimen handling, and grossing techniques.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently on 3rd shift.
