Job description

William A. Hazel, Inc., a total site development contractor for over 60 years, is looking for an Assistant Superintendent. The Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent in the day-to-day management of site development construction activities, ensuring work is performed safely, on schedule, and to quality standards. This is a field-based role focused on coordinating subcontractors, tracking daily progress, and enforcing site safety protocols.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist the Superintendent in:
    • Planning and directing daily field operations for site development (grading, utilities, paving, erosion control, etc.)
    • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors and field crews on-site
    • Conducting daily safety walks and enforce jobsite safety policies and OSHA regulations
    • Maintaining daily field reports, photo logs, and material delivery tracking
    • Assist with site logistics, including material staging, equipment coordination, and site access
    • Support quality control inspections and ensure work conforms to plans and specifications
    • Coordinating with surveyors, testing agencies, and inspectors as needed
    • Help resolve field-level issues and escalate significant concerns to the Superintendent

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3-5 years of experience in site development, civil, or heavy construction
  • Working knowledge of grading, underground utilities, and earthwork operations
  • Familiarity with reading civil/site plans and specifications
  • OSHA 10/30 certification preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

SALARY
$85,000 to $120,000
