Job description

CMA Requirements
  • Must be a graduate of a Certified Medical Assistant program.
  • Certification as a CMA through AAMA required.
  • One to two years' experience in a clinic or hospital setting preferred, two years' mental health experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or the ability to complete immediately after hire.
  • Crisis Intervention training is required. Knowledge of basic office procedures, equipment, and computer systems preferred.

LPN Requirements
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Must fulfill licensure requirements of the State of Wisconsin for an LPN and be legally eligible to practice in the state of Wisconsin.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Wisconsin Nurse Practice Act and LPN Scope of Practice required. Six months to one year experience in psychiatric setting, nursing home, or equivalent education or experience preferred.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Work Hours
We are seeking a PRN CMA or LPN to fill in as needed Monday-Friday in our Southwest Health Behavioral Services Clinic.
Job Summary
Assist with various patient duties including; assessing patient needs, answering questions, providing patient care; rooming patients, taking vitals and histories, screens telephone calls related to patient care - valuates according to protocol and discusses with provider when indicated, managing medication refills, completing prior authorizations, assist with medication consents and contracts, and assist with the day to day operations of the clinic.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded as management may deem.
  1. Manages patient flow and performs patient rooming standards.
  2. Screens telephone calls related to patient care, valuates according to protocol and discusses with provider when indicated.
  3. Obtains appropriate information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  4. Uses set protocols/standing orders as resources to implement appropriate care.
  5. Consults with medical provider regarding situations outside of established protocols.
  6. Reinforces the teaching protocols established by mental health provider and provides basic health care instruction.
  7. Manages medication refill requests.
  8. Assists with completion of medication consents and medication contracts.
  9. Assists with filling out all insurance forms (disability, workman's compensation, off work, return to work, and social security disability forms).
  10. Assists with obtaining authorization for office visits, tests, and medications.
  11. Participates in site process improvement teams.
  12. Cross train and staff other departments as needed.
  13. Provides direct patient care including transferring patients between chairs, commode, and transfer devices. Positions patient/equipment and monitors vitals.
  14. Uses time wisely, is able to prioritize workload.
  15. Performs all required paper work and communicates with patient care staff, patients, and families via computers and communication devices.
  16. Assists in emergency situations.
  17. Responds and assists in behavioral emergencies.
  18. Adheres to Southwest Health's value-based behavior standards.
  19. Understands and adheres to Southwest Health compliance and HIPAA standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  20. Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
