Job description

Senior Design Engineer
  • Ensure that the QMS confirms to ISO 9001:2015
  • Ensure processes are delivering intended outcomes
  • Report to Top Management on the performance of the QMS; on opportunities for improvement; on change requirements; on innovations
  • Ensure the promotion of customer focus
  • Ensure the integrity of the QMS is maintained
Roles & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for leading the design, development, and documentation of low- and medium-voltage switchgear and power distribution systems, while providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, customer requirements, and MCM quality standards.
Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor for Design Engineers and Engineering Interns.
  • Provide guidance on complex design challenges, protection schemes, control circuits, and customer requirements.
  • Provide peer reviews of the engineering deliverables of less experienced engineers.
  • Review engineering deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards.
  • Support engineering training and knowledge sharing initiatives.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining engineering standards, templates, and best practices.
Advanced Design Engineering
  • Lead the design and development of complex electrical switchgear systems including general requirements, elevation and plan views, one-line diagrams, schematics, and control circuits.
  • Lead the selection and specification of electrical components and provide guidance on component application, coordination, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Create and revise engineering drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical).
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., IEC, ANSI, UL, IEEE).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical designers, project managers, and manufacturing teams.
  • Review and interpret customer specifications and provide technical input during submittal, production, and post-shipment phases.
  • Participate in customer technical review meetings and provide engineering expertise during project execution.
  • Support resolution of technical issues during manufacturing, testing, commissioning, and post-shipment activities.
Work Environment
  • Functions with a high degree of autonomy and technical authority. Expected to independently manage complex projects while providing guidance and support to other engineers.
  • Typical work week - 40 hrs.
  • This is an on-site position unless approval is given by management based on a major life change
  • Willingness to work 10% overtime as needed.
  • Travel is not required for this position.

Experience & Education

The well-qualified Design Engineer will have:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or related engineering discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in switchgear or power distribution equipment design.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex projects from concept through manufacturing and testing.
  • Experience reviewing and approving engineering deliverables.
  • Experience mentoring or training engineers.
  • Advanced understanding of low- and medium-voltage systems (up to 38kV).
  • Advanced understanding of electrical protection and control systems.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and Microsoft software
  • Knowledge of relevant electrical standards (IEC, IEEE, UL, NEMA, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing, testing, commissioning, or field service of switchgear (preferred).
