Job description

Perform daily mainframe storage operations using z/OS tools to optimize SMS/DASD utilization, verify HSM/DLM health and space, audit volumes/datasets across both plexes, and submit CRs/incidents as needed to maintain reliability. Produce required compliance/capacity reporting (SCRT/SMF), verify reclaim/housekeeping automation, and complete operational work such as disk initialization, tape consolidations, and maintenance of core storage software (DLM, Solutions Enabler, GDDR, TapeCopy, Unisphere). Execute DR activation/teardown activities, coordinate hardware patching/upgrades, and monitor PowerMax/DLM/Data Domain health and certificates at both Eagan and San Mateo.

Responsibilities
  • MF storage activity using z/OS tools/jobs/commands
  • Check SMS pools for utilization daily and making necessary adjustments to insure the proper and efficient use of our SMS/DASD resources
  • Check the Storage environment and submitting CRs/Incidents as needed to insure storage reliability and stability
  • Check each HSM Control Datasets percentages
  • Check HSM for if any HSM functions might be in a held status
  • Check to see the HSM daily activity status
  • Check DLM allocate and remaining free space
  • Check FastAudit on both Plexโ€™s
  • Check Storage volumes on both Plexโ€™s
  • Check Spill volumes on both Plexโ€™s
  • Check for uncatalogued DS on SMS and non-SMS volumes on both Plexโ€™s
  • Check for production DS on test volumes and test DS on production volumes
  • Create and distribute IBM and Broadcom SCRT reports (monthly)
  • Verify that the daily track reclaim jobs are doing their job
  • Initialize disk volumes when needed
  • Create and run tape connected pair consolidations
  • Install and maintain the following products:
    • DLM Utilities
    • MF Enablers
    • Solutions Enabler (MF and Windows)
    • GDDR
    • TapeCopy
    • Unisphere (Windows)
  • Disaster Recovery
  • Verify Mainframe Production โ€˜SYSDR.MNDR.* datasets before splitting the Mainframe Storage
  • Activate Eagan Mainframe Network Nodes, MNNA and MNNB in San Mateo
  • MF System Housekeeping: run DR SMF/SCRT data collection jobs
  • De-activate/shutdown network mainframe LPARS MNNA and MNNB
  • Storage teardown of Mainframe DR storage
  • Dell Hardware Maintenance:Work with Dell Engineering to patch/upgrade/fix DLM, DD and PowerMax hardware
  • Monitor EMC Hardware status
  • Monitor Eagan EMC PMAX8000 status using CloudIQ and Unisphere
  • Monitor San Mateo EMC PMAX8000 status using CloudIQ and Unisphere
  • Monitor Eagan EMC DLM9500 status using DLM Monitor
  • Monitor San Mateo EMC DLM9500 status using DLM Monitor
  • Monitor Eagan EMC Data Domain status using DD Systems Monitor
  • Monitor San Mateo EMC Data Domain status using DD Systems Monitor
  • Maintain certificates for the Unisphere, DLM and DD Systems Monitors in both Eagan and San Mateo
Requirements
  • US Citizenship
  • Active USPS Clearance
  • EMC/Dell storage administration experience within the past 5 years
  • IBM Mainframe systems programming and administration experience within the past 5 years
  • Strong experience with DT storage
  • DLM experience is required
