How much do solar setter jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 5, 2026, the average hourly pay for solar setter in Florida is $18.13, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $11.88 and $22.26 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Solar Setter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Solar Setter, you need strong interpersonal communication, basic technical knowledge of solar products, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software and sales tools is commonly required. Persuasion, resilience, and active listening set top performers apart in engaging homeowners and building trust. These skills are crucial for generating qualified leads and driving the growth of solar energy adoption.

What does a solar setter do?

A solar setter installs and secures solar panels on rooftops or ground-mounted systems, ensuring proper alignment and connection to electrical systems. The role requires knowledge of electrical safety, use of hand and power tools, and often involves working outdoors in various weather conditions. Certification or training in solar installation is typically required.

What is a Solar Setter?

A Solar Setter is a professional who initiates contact with potential customers to generate interest in solar energy systems. Their main responsibility is to set appointments or leads for solar consultants or sales representatives by educating homeowners about the benefits of switching to solar power. Solar Setters often work in field sales, going door-to-door or making phone calls to identify interested prospects. They play a crucial role in expanding the reach of solar companies and helping more people learn about renewable energy options.

What are some common challenges Solar Setters face when coordinating with homeowners and installation teams?

Solar Setters often serve as the first point of contact between homeowners and solar companies, which can present challenges in managing expectations and ensuring clear communication. They need to effectively educate homeowners about solar products, answer questions, and schedule site assessments—all while relaying accurate information to installation teams. Additionally, balancing multiple appointments and adapting to changing schedules requires strong organizational skills. Successful Solar Setters are proactive communicators who build trust with customers and maintain close collaboration with both sales and technical staff.

What jobs in the US pay 300,000 a year?

For a Solar Setter, earning $300,000 annually is uncommon, as this role typically offers lower compensation. High-paying jobs in the solar industry, such as solar project managers or executive roles, can reach or exceed this level with experience and certifications, but entry-level positions like Solar Setters generally do not. Achieving such income usually requires advanced skills, leadership positions, or ownership of solar business operations.

What solar jobs pay the most?

Senior solar installers, project managers, and solar design engineers tend to earn the highest salaries in solar jobs. These roles often require specialized skills, certifications, and experience, and may involve overseeing large projects or managing teams. Compensation varies by location, company, and level of expertise.

How hard is it to become a solar installer?

Becoming a solar installer typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent, along with on-the-job training or an apprenticeship. Many employers also prefer candidates with knowledge of electrical systems and safety procedures, and some states require licensing or certification. The job involves physical work and working outdoors, but entry can be accessible with the right skills and training.

Job description

Field Sales & Marketing Representative (Tampa Bay)
$2,000+ per week base opportunity
1099 | Tampa / St. Pete + surrounding areas | Start Immediately
Flexible field schedule | Typically 11am–sunset | Mon–Fri or Tue–Sat (Saturday optional)

Tampa Bay electricity bills keep climbing, and homeowners want a smarter option — without the pushy “solar rep” experience. Empire Energy is expanding locally, and we already have strong solar specialists who handle the actual consult and close.

We’re hiring Field Sales & Marketing Representatives to be the friendly first point of contact: meet homeowners, share simple info, offer incentives, and book virtual or in-home appointments. This is a marketing-first role. You are not quoting pricing, not battling objections, and not closing deals at the door.

We’ll keep it old school: we recruit the smile and train the skills. If you’re coachable, can follow directions, and show up with a good attitude, you can learn fast and grow.

Guaranteed Base Opportunity (Not Commission-Only)

This is NOT a commission-only role.
Our pay model includes a $2,000+ per week base opportunity for hitting the basic performance quota (we’ll cover the exact details during the application process). On top of that, there are bonuses tied to performance and closed projects.

We’re selective — we’re only bringing on a small group of people who fit the culture and standards.

Why We Start at 11am (On Purpose)

Most field roles try to own your whole day. We don’t.

We start at 11am so you can:

  • Work out in the morning
  • Handle life stuff in the mornings
  • Be present with family
  • Start your day with energy instead of rushing

Then we run the field shift through sunset, when homeowners are actually home.

What You’ll Do

  • Work in the field across Tampa Bay neighborhoods (team-based — not alone)
  • Knock doors professionally and introduce yourself with a short, respectful script
  • Hand out flyers and simple info (no long pitch)
  • Offer a thank-you incentive voucher (gift delivered after verified appointment rules)
  • Collect basic info when appropriate (name/phone/email)
  • Book virtual or in-home appointments for our solar specialist to complete the presentation
  • Track your activity in a door-knocking app (doors, conversations, notes, appointments)
  • Move on quickly if someone isn’t interested — no pressure, no arguing

What You Will NOT Do

  • You will NOT close solar at the door
  • You will NOT quote pricing or negotiate
  • You will NOT pressure uninterested homeowners
  • You will NOT be expected to be a solar expert
  • You will NOT be thrown out there alone with no support

Our “Gift + Opinion” Model (Why People Say Yes)

We run a different approach. Homeowners can receive thank-you gifts in exchange for their time and opinion after completing a presentation with our solar specialist — even if they don’t buy. Incentives vary by promotion and may include gift cards, local experience incentives, and tickets to sports games.

We do it professionally: we use voucher/gift-receipt language at the door; gifts are delivered after verification. The whole experience is respectful and low-pressure — that’s the point.

Who This Is For

  • No experience needed — learn while you grow
  • Positive, coachable, motivated attitude
  • Can follow directions and work a simple system
  • Professional appearance (clean, sharp, presentable)
  • Comfortable talking to strangers like a normal human
  • Able to walk outdoors for extended periods
  • Reliable transportation
  • Competitive with yourself — you like improving

Growth Opportunity

Top performers can grow into events (farmers markets, trade shows, home shows), leadership, and optional sales paths if you want to level up.

How to Apply

Reply with:

  1. Name + phone number
  2. Your area (Tampa, Brandon, Riverview, Valrico, St. Pete, Clearwater, etc.)
  3. 2–3 sentences on why you’re a fit
    OR apply on empireenergyrecruiting.com

Note: We’re only selecting a small group. If you’re the right type of person, you’ll know quickly.

Company Description

This is a high-energy field marketing role for people who want hands-on coaching, real office culture, and a chance to grow inside one of Tampa Bay’s fastest-growing solar sales teams. You are not expected to know everything about solar on day one. You are expected to show up, learn the script, track your numbers, stay coachable, and create quality conversations.
