Job description

Ameresco, Inc. (NYSE:AMRC) is a leading energy solutions provider dedicated to helping customers reduce costs, enhance resilience, and decarbonize to net zero in the global energy transition. We are a trusted, full-service partner to public sector and government entities, K-12 schools, higher education, utilities, and healthcare customers across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Europe.

At Ameresco, we show the way by developing, constructing and operating tailored smart energy efficiency solutions, distributed energy resources, and infrastructure upgrades that drive cost savings, resilience, decarbonization, and innovation. Our comprehensive portfolio is built to address the challenges of today and adapt the future, ensuring long-term sustainability and success for our customers.

Ameresco is seeking a Hawaii Regional Lead Technician / Field Supervisor to join our Solar Operations & Maintenance team. This is a hybrid role designed for a self-directed leader who will serve as the primary Ameresco presence in Hawaii - functioning as both a working field technician and an autonomous regional coordinator. Given the time zone difference from our mainland supervision staff, this individual must be capable of making sound operational decisions independently, managing day-to-day site activities, and handling administrative and logistical functions without requiring constant oversight.

Responsibilities:

Field Technical Work

  • Inspect, repair, test, troubleshoot, install, remove, and maintain solar site equipment including solar panels, inverters, transformers, breakers, switchgear, and SCADA equipment.

  • Read and interpret instruction manuals, blueprints, and control system drawings; apply knowledge to daily field tasks.

  • Recognize safety hazards and adhere to safety guidelines for personal protection, protection of co-workers, and protection of the public.

Supervision & Team Leadership

  • Serve as the on-site lead for Ameresco field staff and subcontractors operating at Hawaii solar sites.

  • Supervise and train apprentice electricians and co-workers on proper, safe use of tools and maintenance procedures.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to field technicians on repairs, testing, troubleshooting, installation, and equipment maintenance.

  • Oversee day-to-day activities of in-house technicians and subcontractors within the Hawaii region.

  • Provide leadership to on-site staff, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.

Autonomous Regional Operations

The following responsibilities reflect the expanded scope of this role relative to a standard field technician, enabling autonomous operation in a remote region:

  • Act as the primary Ameresco point of contact for all Hawaii-based solar sites, operating with a high degree of independence due to time zone differences from mainland supervision staff.

  • Liaison between customers, engineers, manufacturers, and field employees.

  • Schedule and dispatch field technicians and subcontractors; coordinate work assignments across Hawaii sites to ensure efficient coverage and response times.

  • Order and coordinate the delivery of tools, equipment, and materials needed for projects; maintain adequate regional inventory to support operations without relying on same-day mainland logistics.

  • Prepare and submit quotes for scope additions, change orders, or customer-requested work; coordinate with the mainland project management team for approval thresholds.

  • Process and submit administrative documentation including work orders, purchase requests, timecards, and material requests; ensure records are completed accurately and on time.

  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints; escalate to mainland management when appropriate.

  • Ensure safety policies are strictly adhered to at all Hawaii sites.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Complete written and electronic records (work orders, calibration sheets, timecards, material requests) to document work in progress and upon completion.

  • Provide regular operational status updates to mainland supervision, including site conditions, open work orders, equipment issues, and subcontractor performance.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum of 5 years of industrial solar electric/electronic maintenance experience in the repair, inspection, testing, installation, and/or maintenance of related electrical/electronic equipment.

  • 5+ years of PV Solar Operations and Maintenance experience.

  • Current Journeyman's or Master's Electrical License.

  • Valid driver's license in good standing, issued by state of residence.

  • Experience in a lead, supervisory, or field coordinator capacity.

Additional Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously and make sound operational decisions without real-time supervisory access.

  • Knowledge of electricity, voltage, and current relationships for both AC and DC circuits.

  • Knowledge of Solar PV systems a plus.

  • Proven experience supervising field operations.

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ability to work in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

  • OSHA training and certification preferred.

  • Ability to work in varied environmental conditions.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Flexibility for on-call support or varied schedule needs.

  • Travel flexibility required.

  • Ability to push, pull, bend, stand, stoop, lift, carry, reach, climb, and work on ladders for extended periods with hands and arms at heights to install and troubleshoot equipment.

Theanticipatedbase salary range for this role is$37.00-$53.61/hr.(presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity depending on the role.
