We are seeking an experienced SCADA Engineer at NovaSource Power Services. We are an independent Solar Operations and Maintenance provider currently servicing more than 30 GW of solar assets worldwide. NovaSource Power Services strives to be the number one O&M provider within its key target markets, and have 30% of its revenue from value-added services, of which engineering will play a key role. This role will report to the Senior SCADA Manager and will be responsible for providing SCADA Engineering expertise to the global fleet.

Currently, the engineering team provides three main functions for the business:

  1. Continuous SCADA support for all global assets
  2. Executes addittional fee service projects such as SCADA designs or upgrades
  3. Builds and maintains critical infrastructure to support and monitor global assets


Responsibilities:

  • Respond to daily requests for SCADA engineering support for the global fleet of power plants. Examples:
    • Conducting root cause analysis on NSPS SCADA application issues. Examples include:
      • Data/network communication failures
      • HMI graphic issues
      • Alarming issues
      • Application performance issues
      • Data anomaly issues
      • Power Plant Controller troubleshooting
      • Ticket handling
    • Conducting preventative maintenance on SCADA systems. Examples include:
      • Upgrading or patching application software
      • Managing credentials or other access controls on SCADA systems
      • Taking backups of application software
    • Conducting change requests. Examples include:
      • HMI graphic changes
      • Alarming updates
      • Add or remove data points
      • Creating user accounts
  • Participate in Execution of an additional fee service projects. Tasks include:
    • Design and build new SCADA configurations from scratch for new SCADA designs
    • Create drawings such as block diagrams, data flow diagrams, IP tables, and more.
    • Gather quotes and create purchase requests for SCADA equipment and software licenses
    • Configure or program RTU’s or PLC’s
    • Communicate professionally with customers
    • Self-manage time and schedule
    • Travel to site to install and commission systems
    • Conduct alarm dictionary review with operators and site supervisors
  • Retrieve and analyze site record drawings which include single lines, SCADA data flows, and wiring diagrams.
  • Communicate daily with field technicians to gather information or provide recommendations on SCADA issues.
  • Communicate daily with other Engineering team members using email, chat, or phone.
  • Communicate daily with vendors/subcontractors for additional support or project management
  • Participate in weekly team meetings to review problems, open support requests, and plan value added services.
  • Establish relationships with vendors used for onsite work or for materials.
  • Procure parts and labor for support issues or value-added services projects.
  • 20% travel locally or internationally for site visits, team meetings, or training.


General Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering disciplines: Electrical, SCADA, networking, server, and application, cloud infrastructure, Network and Firewalls, new technologies, digital platforms, protocols as minimum
  • Accomplished user of Microsoft Office 365 suite of tools: Outlook, Excel, Power Point, SharePoint.
  • Communicate effectively in both verbal and written format in English.
  • Must be able to prioritize day to day work.
  • High attention to detail. Minimal mistakes in SCADA application configurations.
  • Strong analytical and documentation skills.
  • Microsoft Visio experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of solar plant controllers, substations, Inverters,...
  • Basic knowledge of approved cyber security practices.

SCADA Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of SCADA automation design or minimum 3 years of SCADA integration and support experience
  • Experience with Ignition as must and N3uron SCADA software as plus.
  • Experience executing a minimum of three large SCADA projects from end-to-end (design to commissioning).
  • Experience with creating HMI graphics from single lines or P&IDs.
  • Extensive experience with Modbus, DNP3, MQTT and OPC-UA protocols.
  • Experience with Modicon M340 PLC programming, Rockwell PLC programming is a plus.
  • Experience with SEL RTAC programming.
  • Experience with remote desktop, SSH, and telnet access methods.

Work Environment:

The SCADA Engineer will work in a hybrid environment with access to all necessary software and tools provided by the company. The SCADA Engineer will have frequent communication with other team members and vendors/subcontractors through email, chat, in-person meetings, and phone calls.
