Description:

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Senior Designer to join our team in our Las Vegas, Nevada office. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.

Requirements:
  • Selects, recommends, performs, and directs procedures and preparation of preliminary and final design
  • Assist in coordination with other in-house disciplines and sub-consultant services
  • Prepares plan documents and supporting design calculations
  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of engineering principles and completes fundamental calculations
  • Able to delegate CAD assignments and determine methods and procedures
  • Independently performs assignments on basic design elements
  • Provides training and coordination with CAD Technicians and Engineering Interns
  • Assist in meeting deadlines, budgets, and completing projects on schedule
  • Prepare grading designs, plan, and profile of roadways and utilities
  • Prepare complete civil construction documents/improvement plan sets
  • Review and understand jurisdictional code requirements and implement in the design
  • Prepare construction cost estimates/quantity takeoffs
  • Perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control of work product
  • Assist in the submittal of project document
  • Assist in jurisdictional coordination, response to comments, and preparation of submittal documents
  • Maintain open communication with Project Manager and design team

Required Skills

  • Able to prepare grading plans with little direction from supervisor or team leader
  • Understands drainage, water, sewer design elements
  • Understand surveying mapping
  • Competent technical skills required to complete basic engineering tasks
  • Proactively pursues design solutions
  • Exercises sound independent judgement
  • Strong understanding of local and agency standards, codes, and policies
  • Strong understanding of client requirements
  • Ability to estimate man-hours for specific tasks
  • Advanced knowledge of CAD software
  • Able to identify and obtain necessary data to complete design
  • Able to maintain organized CAD drawings and draws with precision
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and able to write, send, and process email
  • Able to maintain a task list and set the priority of tasks to achieve project milestones and deadlines
  • Able to write justification letters for elements of designs and submittal packages

Required Experience

  • 3 years of experience as a designer
  • 5 years of experience in CAD drafting
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 5+ years relevant experience, OR;
  • Associate's Degree and 3+ years relevant experience
  • Land Development experience a plus
  • Residential Engineering a plus
