Overview

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is a trusted provider of mission‑enabling solutions for global security. We are looking for a Principal Embedded Software Engineer – Manufacturing Test Engineering (RF Systems) located in Rolling Meadows, IL.

Responsibilities
  • Support software efforts associated with testing Radio Frequency (RF) production hardware in a dynamic, fast‑paced production environment.
  • Lead test software development from requirements capture through final validation and release.
  • Collaborate with Product Design Engineers, Test Hardware Engineers, QA Engineers, and Manufacturing Technicians.
  • Set up and support acceptance testing of Shop Replaceable Units and payload (Line Replaceable Unit) level testing and environmental screening.
  • Design, code, integrate, and validate software to meet new or modified testing requirements.
  • Generate and maintain Manufacturing Acceptance testing procedures, Environmental Screening procedures, and hardware drawings of test equipment and fixtures.
  • Review quality metrics to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost, cycle time, and defects.
  • Collaborate with design engineering to achieve testability in new and updated product designs.
  • Design and maintain manufacturing acceptance testing fixtures and stations for functional and environmental testing.
  • Interface and communicate with multiple leadership levels, clients, and vendors.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related STEM field with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience; or Master of Science with 3+ years of experience.
  • Experience with programming languages such as C#, C, Java, or Lab Windows CVI.
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, or firmware issues.
  • Experience completing software projects involving design, development, integration, and validation on schedule and on budget.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Python and MATLAB experience.
  • Experience with schematic generation such as Cadence.
  • Software troubleshooting of test equipment or prime hardware.
  • Experience troubleshooting units under test.
  • Experience with RF electronic systems in a manufacturing or design environment.
  • Experience using test instruments such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, etc.
  • Familiarity with reading schematics and interpreting electrical one‑lines.
  • Experience using GitHub.
  • Active DoD security clearance.

Primary salary range: $108,800.00 – $163,200.00. Salary is determined by factors such as scope of responsibilities, experience, and market conditions.

Funding may include overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, long‑term incentives for senior roles, health insurance, life and disability insurance, company‑paid holidays, and paid time off.
