Job description

The Training Manager provides overall leadership and accountability with accountability to run the primary North America training center in Houston, overseeing various learner populations while ensuring intentional alignment across areas of overlap including but not limited to rig operations and technician development.
This role leads the integration of technical (product line) and rig operations training, bringing product line and rig operations teams together to close technical capability gaps while also ensuring training supports real-world execution, operational readiness, and consistent performance in the field.
The Manager is responsible for training delivery and continuous improvement across curriculum design, instructor development, competency assurance (CAMS), and administrative compliance. The role ensures all training content is accurate, standardized, and aligned with operational, technical, and safety requirements.
In close partnership with Operations, QHSE, HR, and technical stakeholders-including Engineering and Product teams as applicable-the Training Center Manager ensures training reflects current operating conditions, equipment and system changes, and evolving performance needs, directly supporting workforce readiness and accelerated time-to-competency
Responsibilities
Team Leadership
  • Provide direct leadership for both Operations Development and Technician Development teams, setting
expectations, priorities, and performance standards across the training center.
  • Maintain the mission and deliverables of each team while driving consistent execution standards (quality,
    safety, documentation, evaluation rigor).
  • Evaluate, coach, and support trainers; drive professional development and expansion of technical and
    instructional skillsets.

Planned Alignment & Leverage of Overlap
  • Establish a shared operating rhythm (weekly planning, monthly review, quarterly roadmap) that
coordinates both teams' priorities and prevents conflicting schedules, duplicate work, or inconsistent
    standards.
  • Create and govern a common framework for: instructional standards, assessment approach, training
documentation, and performance reporting-used by both teams.
  • Identify overlap opportunities (shared equipment systems, troubleshooting methodology, safety
expectations, training aids, common evaluations) and implement joint solutions (shared modules, shared
    labs, co-teaching where useful).

Competency Assurance & CAMS Oversight
  • Oversee implementation and effectiveness of the Competency Assurance Management System (CAMS),
ensuring consistent delivery and alignment with organizational standards.
  • Maintain accurate competency records and performance data; generate reports to evaluate technician
and trainer competency trends and identify gaps.
  • Ensure evaluation and assessment practices meet technical, procedural, and safety expectations through
    observation, audits, and coaching.

Training Program Execution & Quality Control
  • Supervise execution and quality of training initiatives, ensuring efficient delivery and adherence to
    established standards.
  • Evaluate training outcomes, identify gaps, and drive corrective actions and improvements to increase
    program effectiveness and consistency.
  • Deliver instructor-led and virtual training as needed (classroom/Webex), including hands-on training
    activities aligned with program needs.

Curriculum Architecture, Content Development & Governance
  • Develop, update, and maintain curriculum, manuals, guides, visual references, troubleshooting resources,
    and structured learning paths.
  • Translate operational lessons learned and technical changes into scalable training content and learning
    experiences.
  • Ensure training content stays technically accurate and current by partnering with SMEs and relevant
    stakeholders.

Technical Enablement / Product & System Alignment (As Applicable)
  • Where applicable, serve as a liaison to ensure training reflects equipment/system design changes,
software releases, and product lifecycle updates that impact field performance and reliability.
  • Incorporate troubleshooting scenarios and root-cause learning into training content and assessments to
    strengthen field readiness.

Performance Evaluation, Metrics & Reporting
  • Track trainee and trainer performance metrics and provide feedback and action plans to improve
    outcomes.
  • Compile and present training performance reports to leadership, including program metrics, gap trends,
    and improvement recommendations.
  • Use data and stakeholder feedback to drive continuous improvement in training quality, consistency, and
    operational readiness.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Alignment
  • Coordinate with Operations, HR, area leadership, and training staff to align training objectives with
    operational demands.
  • Function as a liaison between trainees, trainers, and leadership to communicate requirements, concerns,
    and recommendations effectively.

Administrative & Operational Support
  • Oversee training documentation, training matrices, certification tracking, and internal/third-party training
    records.
  • Ensure training materials and supplies are current, available, and maintained to support delivery needs.
  • Support training administration activities including cost tracking, invoicing assistance, and compliance
reporting; coordinate with Training Administrator(s) to maintain workflows and requirements.
