Job description

Job Title: FR REQ TTO4 - Software Engineer - Level 2 (Testing Focus)
Location (On-site, Remote, or Hybrid?): Washington, DC (onsite)
Contract Duration: Contract until 04/29/2031

Key Responsibilities
  • Software Test Engineering (Primary Focus on TTO4)
  • Design, develop, and maintain test plans, test cases, and test processes for mission system software across the full software life cycle
  • Create and maintain test environments and automated test capabilities; develop and maintain test automation primarily in Python
  • Perform Integration & Testing (I&T) and Acceptance Testing of mission system components and end-to-end workflows
  • Conduct performance, load, and stress testing; user interface testing; data interface testing; security testing; and systems integration testing
  • Apply code coverage tools and analyze results to drive test completeness and defect detection
  • Report and track software problems through resolution; document test results and contribute to defect triage
  • Support installation, configuration, management, and enhancement of software applications, LINUX systems, and connected network components in support of the test mission
Software Design and Development
  • Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements
  • Design and code new software or modify existing software to add new features
  • Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments
  • Modify existing software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, or improve performance
  • Design, develop, and modify software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and consequences of design
  • Develop or implement algorithms to meet or exceed system performance and functional standards
  • Design or implement complex algorithms requiring adherence to strict timing, system resource, or interface constraints
  • Design or implement complex database or data repository interfaces and queries; develop simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories
  • Develop software solutions by analyzing system performance standards; confer with users or system engineers; analyze systems flow, data usage, and work processes; and investigate problem areas
  • Confer with system engineers and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces
  • Coordinate software system installation and monitor equipment functioning to ensure operational specifications are met
  • Debug existing software and correct defects
Quality, Documentation, and Process
  • Assist with developing and executing test procedures for software components
  • Write and review software and system documentation
  • Perform quality control on team products
  • Provide and implement recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards
Team Leadership and Collaboration
  • Serve as team lead at the level appropriate to the software development process being used on the project
  • Oversee one or more software development teams as needed and ensure work is completed in accordance with the constraints of the software development process being used
  • Participate in agile ceremonies, sprint planning, code reviews, and design reviews; collaborate with backend, frontend, infrastructure, and test engineering teams
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Four (4) years of additional Software Engineer experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a Bachelor's degree.
Experience: Fourteen (14) years of experience as a Software Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required. At least six (6) years of that SWE experience must be in software testing (test plan/case/process design, test automation development, I&T, Acceptance Testing, performance/load/stress testing, security testing, or systems integration testing).
ADDITIONAL REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph - no exceptions; must be active prior to start
  • On-site availability at Columbia, MD or Annapolis Junction, MD in a SCIF environment
  • Demonstrated experience supporting software development and full life cycle testing of mission systems
  • Hands-on experience designing, developing, and maintaining test plans, cases, and processes
  • Hands-on experience creating and maintaining test environments and automated test capabilities
  • Test automation development experience using Python
  • Performance, load, and stress testing experience
  • Data interface testing and user interface testing experience
  • Security testing experience
  • Experience with code coverage tools
  • Systems integration testing experience
  • Experience performing Integration & Testing (I&T) and Acceptance Testing
  • Experience reporting and tracking software problems through resolution (e.g., JIRA or Git issue tracking)
  • Experience with installation, configuration, management, and enhancement of software applications, LINUX/UNIX systems, and connected network components
  • Software development experience in C, C++, or Java
  • Scripting experience in PERL, Python, or BASH
  • Experience with Agile software development practices
