The Role 

The Cloud Operations engineering team is seeking a senior software testing engineer. Our team is responsible for core functions like login, Member data, member applications, and other self-service capabilities. Our team continually evaluates and improves our processes and drives forward as much new technology as possible. Roles and Responsibilities 

As a Senior Software Test and Quality Engineer with expertise in Azure, CI/CD, test automation, and distributed application testing, you will be critical in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, reliable, and performant software solutions. Your contributions will be vital in establishing a strong testing foundation within the DevOps culture, enabling the team to deliver exceptional products that meet the highest quality standards. Cloud Operations is a team, and as such, your primary focus each day is working with other members of your direct and extended team to move our software forward. 

  • Work in full partnership with your product and IT (SRE) team members to collaborate on the current solution. 

  • Embrace DevOps: Your expertise in software testing and DevOps practices will be vital in fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous integration, and seamless delivery of high-quality software products. 

  • Test Strategy and Planning: Develop comprehensive test strategies and plans, aligned with project requirements and quality goals, with a focus on testing Azure-based distributed applications. 

  • Test Automation: Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks using industry-standard tools, ensuring efficient and reliable test execution within CI/CD pipelines. 

  • CI/CD Integration: Collaborate with DevOps teams to integrate automated tests into the CI/CD pipelines, enabling continuous testing and early detection of defects. 

  • Test Execution and Reporting: Execute test cases, analyze results, and report defects using appropriate bug tracking systems, providing clear and concise documentation of test outcomes. 

  • Performance Testing: Design and execute performance tests to assess the system's response time, throughput, and resource utilization, identifying areas for optimization and improvement. 

  • Test Data Management: Develop strategies for managing test data and ensure its privacy and integrity throughout the testing process. 

  • Test Environment Management: Work with DevOps teams to set up and maintain test environments that mirror production environments for accurate testing. 

  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously improve testing processes and methodologies, exploring new tools and techniques to enhance test automation and overall test coverage. 

  • Quality Advocacy: Champion a culture of quality throughout the development process, providing valuable feedback on code quality, design, and testability. 

  • Defect Management: Collaborate with the development team to triage and prioritize defects, ensuring timely resolution and preventing reoccurrence. 

  • Knowledge Sharing: Mentor junior team members and share knowledge and best practices to promote the growth and skill development of the testing team. 

Skills and Requirements  

As a Senior Software Testing and Quality Engineer, your high proficiency in the following areas will be instrumental in successfully delivering complex software projects. You will be pivotal in shaping software solutions, collaborating with the team, and ensuring the highest code quality and performance standards. 

  • Experience writing and maintaining testing frameworks 

  • Demonstrated passion and experience in solving software testing problems 

  • Hands-on experience contributing to successful software releases 

  • Understanding of agile methodology and ability to break down and estimate new work 

  • Excellent knowledge of software testing principles, best practices, and concepts 

  • Solid understanding of testing microservices and distributed applications 

  • Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences 

  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages 

  • Must have experience working with Git source control  

  • Must have great analytical, problem solving and debugging skills with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively 

  • Passion for learning new tools and technologies 

Preferred Qualifications (not mandatory, but desirable): 

  • Comfortable working with complex applications 

  • Understanding and experience with Docker containers and Kubernetes  

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools  

  • Experience working in Agile development environments, participating in sprints and adapting to iterative development cycles. 

  • GitHub: Experience with Github, GitHub actions, and GitHub Copilot
