Job description

Salary Range: $70,000.00 To $105,000.00 Annually

Simformotion™ LLC, the licensee for Cat® Simulators for Caterpillar Inc., is seeking a Software Quality Automation Engineer to help strengthen the quality, reliability, and efficiency of our simulator and software products. This role is ideal for someone with strong testing fundamentals, automation experience, and an interest in using AI-assisted tools to improve how testing is designed, executed, maintained, and analyzed. If you enjoy solving technical problems in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, we would like to hear from you.

Responsibilities

As a Software Quality Automation Engineer, you will help build and improve automated testing frameworks, tools, and scripts that support stronger product quality, more consistent validation, and faster release cycles. Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop,maintain, and execute test plans, test cases, and test scenarios.
  • Expand and improve test coverage withinPractiTest.
  • Performfunctional, regression, integration, and exploratory testing across simulator and software products.
  • Design, develop, andmaintainautomated testing solutions, internal automation tools, and scalable testing frameworks that reduce repetitive manual validation and improve efficiency, consistency, and release velocity.
  • Helpestablishautomation strategies, standards, and best practices across products.
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools and workflows to accelerate test design, automation implementation, test maintenance, defect analysis, documentation, and continuous improvement of the QA process.
  • Validate desktop applications, simulator software, and hardware integrations.
  • Identify, document, and track defects using Jira.
  • Create andmaintainQA documentation, testing procedures, and knowledge-sharing resources within Confluence.
  • Participate in Agile development processes, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Collaborate closely with developers, testers, designers, and the Product Manager throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Continuously evaluate opportunities to improve quality, expand automation coverage,eliminatemanual validationeffort, increase releaseconfidenceand team velocity.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience in Software Quality Assurance, Test Automation, or a related role.
  • Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, test design techniques, and QA best practices.
  • Experience developing,maintaining, or contributing to automated testing solutions, frameworks, or automation tooling.
  • Demonstrated ability toidentifymanual processes and translate them into scalable automation solutions.
  • Understanding ofautomation frameworks, automation architecture, and test lifecycle management.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with defect tracking and test management systems.
  • Experience working within Agile software development teams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Bonus Skills and Experience
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, or similar project management and documentation platforms.
  • Experience withPractiTestor similar test management platforms.
  • Experience with Git or other source control systems.
  • Experience with C#, .NET, or other object-oriented programming languages used to develop automation tools, frameworks, or test solutions.
  • Experience testing desktop or enterprise software applications.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex software systems involving multiple applications, services, or hardware components.
  • Experience with Unity-based applications, simulations, gaming, or interactive software.
  • Experience testing software that interfaces with physical hardware, sensors, controls, or external devices.
  • Experience using AI tools to accelerate testing, automation development, documentation, and quality analysis.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern development workflows.

  • This is an onsite position. Candidates must be able to work in person at our East Peoria, Illinois office. Remote work is not available for this role.
