Job Summary
The International Student Advisor II, under general supervision, assists with providing support for international students. Assists office leadership in providing services to international students, faculty, and staff. Has occasional office administrative duties including student worker supervision. Has access to protected information under FERPA and HIPAA.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serves and advises international students on various standard issues impacting them, such as personal, financial needs, academic issues, immigration, health insurance and health care, travel, taxes, and scholarships, grants, and loans that might be available
  • Assists with the department's on-call emergency response system
  • Assists with maintenance of international student records, databases, admissions related processing and other advising related administrative tasks, such as preparing memos, researching and preparing reports, estimated expenses, federal documents, and applications
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of student programming activities such as new student check-in and orientations, seminars, special topic workshops, and joint programming with other campus or community entities
  • Serves as a leader in a work team focused on one specialized area within the office, which could include areas such as student programming, immigration advising, health insurance, publications, admissions, and/or financial aid
  • Occasionally serves as the office representative in areas of expertise
  • Advises international student organizations
  • Occasionally supervises student workers as needed on a project-related basis

Additional Responsibilities
  • Oversees administrative tasks related to international education opportunities, which include creating program budgets, assisting with travel arrangements, handling various types of applications, scholarships, service hours, and orienting and debriefing students and faculty.
  • Serves as a member of a team focused on scholarship administration, recruitment, database management, internships, and financial aid.
  • Coordinates with Student pre-departure programs, seminars, special topic workshops, and joint programming with other campus or community entities.
  • Serve as SEVIS ARO and DSO
  • Assists with I20 record maintenance for enrolled students and provides general immigration advising in reference to travel signatures, maintaining status information and reporting requirements.
  • Serve as Passport Agent
  • Coordinates with the organization of the office's mentor groups (SAGA and ISMP).
  • Provide advanced advising for incoming exchange students on various issues impacting program, such as personal, academic, health insurance and health care, travel, and cultural needs of students.
  • Provides assistance with document record maintenance via ISSM or other software.
  • Provides back up for administrative support and maintains office schedules and/or appointments.
  • Participates in recruitment events, fairs, and on-site for international and study-abroad recruitment.
  • Assists with marketing and social media campaigns.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education - Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Experience - Two years of related experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Be familiar with higher education degree requirements.
  • Knowledge of Banner, transfer articulation and SEVIS.

Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
  • Word processing and spreadsheet applications.

Ability to:
  • Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Effectively communicate with international students, faculty, staff, and member of the community.
  • Comprehend and communicate technical information effectively and diplomatically

Licensing / Professional Certification - None.

Salary: $17.54/hourly
