Ready to lead a talented development team while still staying close to the technology? This is an opportunity for an experienced software development professional to take ownership of applications that support customer-facing digital experiences, internal operations, and critical financial systems.

Apex Placement & Consulting has partnered with an established financial organization seeking a Software Engineering Manager in Kingston, NY to lead its software development team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the balance of people leadership, hands-on technical expertise, application architecture, and strategic planning.

You’ll work closely with executive leadership and key business partners to shape the technology roadmap, strengthen development standards, and ensure the team consistently delivers secure, reliable, high-quality software.

What’s in It for You
  • High-impact leadership role with visibility across the organization
  • Opportunity to lead and develop an established software engineering team
  • Ability to influence application architecture and long-term technology strategy
  • Hands-on involvement with modern .NET, cloud, web, and DevOps technologies
  • Collaborative environment partnering directly with executive leadership, business operations, security, and compliance

  • Stable organization where technology plays a critical role in the customer experience
What Your Day Will Look Like
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers while creating a culture focused on quality, accountability, curiosity, and continuous improvement
  • Manage the full software development lifecycle from requirements gathering and solution design through development, deployment, and ongoing production support
  • Oversee the design and delivery of applications utilizing C#, .NET Core, modern JavaScript frameworks, relational databases, and cloud technologies
  • Remain technically engaged and provide guidance on application development, architecture, design patterns, and engineering standards
  • Establish and reinforce engineering best practices including code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, documentation, and secure development
  • Partner with business leaders, IT security, compliance, operations, and other stakeholders to ensure technology solutions support organizational and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with executive technology leadership to develop and prioritize the roadmap for digital platforms and delivery channels
  • Work alongside business analysts and cross-functional committees to translate organizational priorities into actionable technology initiatives
  • Develop plans that allow the engineering team to deliver working software iteratively and continuously
  • Establish architectural standards and governance that support both immediate business requirements and long-term scalability
  • Maintain a strong focus on production stability, operational readiness, security, and system reliability
  • Communicate project status, risks, priorities, and critical technology initiatives to senior and executive leadership
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline OR equivalent professional experience and/or recognized industry certifications

  • Experience within financial services, banking, credit unions, fintech, or another highly regulated environment is a plus
  • Ability to meet applicable bonding and certification requirements
The Ideal Candidate
You don’t have to choose between being a strong technical leader and a strong people leader — you enjoy doing both.
You can dig into architecture and development decisions with your engineering team, then turn around and confidently communicate technology priorities, risks, and opportunities to executive leadership. You understand that great software engineering isn’t just about writing code; it’s about building a team, establishing strong processes, and delivering technology that the organization can depend on.
