JOB DESCRIPTION

Crescent Systems Inc. – a custom hardware/software engineering company headquartered in Richardson, TX, is seeking a talented Software Engineering Manager. The Software Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading a team of approximately 10-20 software engineers in an Agile software development environment. The Software Engineering Manager oversees all aspects of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) to ensure high-quality, reliable solutions that align with the evolving needs of our customers in accordance with internal processes and external standards. The selected candidate will be subject to government security investigations and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, and QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and ability to obtain a U.S. Government Security Clearance
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 5-10 years of related engineering experience
  • 5+ years of experience as an individual software engineering contributor
  • 3+ years of experience as a functional manager with multiple direct reports
  • 3+ years of experience as a CAM (Control Account Manager) on EVMS (Earned Value Management System) programs
  • Experience with Agile software development, object-oriented architecture and programming, software integration and testing.
  • Experience with the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Demonstrated adeptness in leadership, with a proven ability to foster cohesive teams
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately estimate the required skills, talent, and time to complete software engineering tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently task individual contributors and balance workloads across teams
  • Background working with Department of War (formerly Department of Defense) programs
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience in developing proposal inputs (task descriptions and basis of estimate)
  • Successful experience in mentoring and nurturing junior engineers into more senior roles
  • Time management and organizational skills to prioritize concurrent programs and functional responsibilities.
  • Active DoD Secret or Top-Secret security clearance


CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS THE ABILITY TO:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the software development team, ensuring accountability, productivity, and alignment with company goals in a growing, potentially hybrid environment
  • Implement and utilize several Agile development techniques and metrics to manage the team’s progress and the work quality throughout the SDLC
  • Allocate software engineers efficiently to balance staffing needs, workload distribution, and skill requirements to support program needs.
  • Champion for the software engineers, conduct annual performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback if an engineer is not meeting expectations. Dig in when tasks are not being completed on time to find the root cause.
  • Lead the financial aspects of software engineering tasks, ensuring accurate cost estimation, tracking, and reporting. Monitor task budgets, identify cost-saving opportunities, and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to manage expenses effectively.
  • Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to develop and refine project budgets. Provide expert input on cost estimation for software engineering tasks, components, and resources required for successful project execution.
