Job description

We are seeking a skilled StepWise Developer with experience on the Optum StepWise platform. This role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-grade quoting, rating, and workflow solutions built on Microsoft .NET technologies.
StepWise is a multi-tier application leveraging Microsoft .NET, ASP.NET, and Microsoft SQL Server, with integrations across distributed systems and databases. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in workflow automation, data integration, and enterprise application development.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain automation workflows and integrations using the StepWise platform
• Translate business requirements into scalable, efficient, and maintainable process flows
• Build and optimize data pipelines, API integrations, and event-driven processes
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities and implement solutions
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and enhance existing workflows for performance and reliability
• Document processes, configurations, and best practices for internal and client use
Technical Responsibilities (StepWise Platform)
• Develop and maintain StepWise components, including:
o Rating services (quote and pricing logic)
o Workflow services for business process automation
o Web services (security, content management, and integrations)
• Work with Windows services and ASP.NET web applications within the StepWise ecosystem
• Design and manage database structures for both configuration and transactional data
• Implement integrations with external systems via ODBC, APIs, and enterprise data sources
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Hands-on experience developing in StepWise (Optum platform preferred)
• Strong experience with:
o Microsoft .NET / ASP.NET
o SQL Server and relational database design
• Proficiency in SQL for querying, data manipulation, and performance tuning
• Advanced Excel skills to support formula calculations and configuration within StepWise tools
• Experience building and consuming web services (REST/SOAP APIs)
• Familiarity with enterprise system integrations (e.g., Oracle, DB2, ODBC-compliant systems)
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in healthcare, insurance, or financial services domains
• Knowledge of rating engines, quoting systems, or underwriting workflows
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and distributed systems
• Experience with performance tuning and optimization of enterprise applications
