LOCATION: Hybrid Chattanooga
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Data Analyst Intern will primarily support Astec Industries' subsidiary companies by collecting and organizing procurement-related data to assist with dashboard updates and development. This role will involve collaborating with subsidiaries to understand current systems and help identify opportunities to simplify and improve processes.
The intern will work closely with the Strategic Procurement team to support dashboard operations and basic maintenance, while helping communicate technical concepts in a clear and understandable way to business users and stakeholders.
This position will provide hands-on experience with leading Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and Alteryx, and will offer exposure to real-world data analytics and reporting practices.
Key Deliverables
Identify, organize, and analyze relevant datasets in support ongoing research projects.
Assist with designing data visualization tools for evaluating and summarizing insights and research results.
Prepare reports for executive leaders to communicate trends, patterns, and predications using relevant data.
Locate and define new process improvement opportunities.
Filter and clean data by reviewing computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and code problems.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
Identify processes and procedures that are inefficient or repetitive and seek ways to streamline, eliminate, and automate.
Create best-in-class/compelling visualization of data, dashboards, tools, and reports that supports the interpretation and conclusions that drives key decisions for leadership.
Drive BI penetration into the Business' processes, and help the Enterprise with strategic, tactical, and operational decision making using BI toolsets.
Build strong credibility to become a trusted and sought-after partner for business teams seeking guidance on how to use analytics.
Support all Enterprise analytical BI in terms of data availability, accuracy, and definitions; system functionality, instructions, and proper usage; ad hoc/customized reporting of data.
To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Data Analytics, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
Basic knowledge of data analysis and reporting concepts
Familiarity with Excel; experience with Power BI, Tableau, or Alteryx is a plus
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain data concepts clearly
Eagerness to learn new tools, technologies, and business
Experience in data modeling using best practices for analytic and reporting solutions
Exposure to enterprise data analytics and reporting processes
