Job Description

THE OPPORTUNITY

Silvus is seeking a Web Interface Software Engineer Intern who will report to the Senior Embedded Web Developer on the Software Engineering team. The successful intern in this role will actively learn and support the development of Silvus' MANET radios and advanced research projects. This internship helps to develop and maintain the key user interaction our customers have with our Silvus StreamCaster radios.

This internship is fully onsite, Monday through Friday, at Silvus Technologies' headquarters in the heart of vibrant West Los Angeles.

The following is a list of at least some of the current essential job functions of the position. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time at its discretion.

ROLE, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

As a Web Interface Software Engineer Intern, you will gain hands-on experience and contribute to the quality of our products by:

  • Developing, maintaining, improving, and testing Silvus StreamCaster radio's web interface and network management software.
  • Developing applications running on the Silvus StreamCaster radios.
  • Integrating the UI with embedded systems.
  • Documenting, tracking, and developing solutions for feature requests or bugs in the software.
  • Building firmware for various Silvus devices.
  • Setting up testing environments with our Silvus StreamCaster radios.
  • Upholding the quality and security of the Silvus StreamCaster radio web interface and software.
  • Performing other related duties of which the above are representative.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • In-progress Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related technical fields.
  • Coursework or project experience that demonstrates foundational skills in software development with JavaScript, Python, C/C++, or related languages.
  • Proficient with web browser development tools for debugging and inspecting network requests.
  • Basic understanding of computer networking concepts.
  • Experience with Linux environment.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen due to clients under U.S. government contracts.
  • All employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check and drug test.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of jQuery and ReactJS.
  • Experience in in UI test automation.
  • Experience with C programming.
  • Understanding interacting with APIs, JSON, and network call lifecycles.
  • Familiarity with SSH and Putt/Minicom.
  • Familiar with mesh networking.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Office environment.
  • Occasional exposure to heat, cold, and allergens while performing tests or demonstrations in the field.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to do the following:
    • Lift equipment up to 50 lbs. for the set-up of demonstrations and testing.
    • Perform bending and reaching movements to place items on lower and higher shelves.
    • Kneeling or squatting to access lower shelves.
    • Walking/Moving in the labs.

COMPENSATION: $28.60 - $33.80 / hourly [in-progress Bachelor's degree]

COMPENSATION: $42.00 / hourly [in-progress Master's degree]
