Overview

Position Summary:

The Senior Software Engineer in Test within the Digital Factory is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated test frameworks, tools, and processes to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of clinical decision support solutions. This role leads test automation initiatives across the product lifecycle, while also supporting manual, exploratory, integration, and regression testing activities as needed.

The Senior Software Engineer in Test is accountable for ensuring comprehensive test coverage, requirements traceability, and efficient validation of software features and system behaviors. Working closely with Software Engineers, Product Owners, and cross‑functional stakeholders in an Agile environment, this role drives scalable and sustainable test strategies that support multiple product releases and continuous delivery objectives.

This position plays a key role in establishing and advancing the System Testing function, influencing quality engineering practices and contributing to the successful development and delivery of Werfen digital products.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

Essential Functions:

  • Design, develop, maintain, and enhance automated test frameworks, tools, and processes to improve software quality, test efficiency, and productivity for cloud‑based solutions.
  • Define and implement scalable test automation strategies supporting functional, integration, system, end‑to‑end, and regression testing throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Develop, execute, and maintain automated test suites, ensuring seamless integration with CI/CD pipelines and continuous delivery processes.
  • Review and analyze automated test execution results, communicate issues and risks to the team, and log and track defects as required.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineers, Product Owners, and cross‑functional teams to implement user stories, develop test solutions, and deliver high‑quality software.
  • Write and maintain automation code, including reusable components and step definitions, and participate in the review of test scenarios to ensure appropriate quality, coverage, and maintainability.
  • Review and approve code changes and pull requests, ensuring adherence to coding standards, testability, and quality engineering best practices.
  • Define, maintain, and monitor requirements traceability and test coverage metrics to ensure comprehensive verification and validation of software requirements.
  • Perform and support testing activities beyond automation, including exploratory, integration, system, workflow, qualification, and regression testing, as needed.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement testing tools, frameworks, and technologies; lead proof‑of‑concept initiatives to validate new solutions and improve testing capabilities.
  • Document, track, and verify defects, communicate testing progress and quality metrics, and support verification and release activities.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, training, and documentation to promote continuous improvement, effective use of testing tools and frameworks, and adoption of quality engineering best practices across the organization.

Networking/Key Relationships:

  • Collaborate regularly with cross‑functional teams, including Digital Solutions, Software Engineering, R&D, Clinical Software, Product Management, DevOps, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and other stakeholders to support product development, testing, quality, and release objectives.

Preferred Experience:

  • Proven experience in software verification, validation, and test automation, including the design and maintenance of enterprise‑grade automated testing frameworks and solutions.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, supporting CI/CD‑based software delivery, and collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams.
  • Experience in Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) development and testing following ISO 13485, IEC 62304, and 21 CFR Part 820 is highly desirable.
Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge & Experience Required for the Position:

  • Bachelor's Degree plus a minimum of 5‑10 years related experience or Master's Degree plus 3‑5 years of related experience or waiver based on experience
  • Experience in Software Medical Devices development that follows ISO 13485, IEC 62304 / 21 CFR Part 820.30 highly desired

Skills & Capabilities:

  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise‑grade test automation frameworks using Selenium WebDriver, TestNG, JUnit, Cucumber/BDD, Gherkin, Squish, REST Assured, Postman, and Swagger/OpenAPI.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining UI, API, integration, system, and regression test automation for complex software applications.
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, microservices architecture, cloud‑native applications, and front‑end/back‑end testing methodologies.
  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, Maven, Git/Bitbucket, and Artifactory.
  • Strong knowledge of test design techniques, verification methodologies, SDLC processes, requirements traceability, and test coverage practices.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, including database validation and testing activities.
  • Experience testing cloud‑based solutions and working with AWS services such as Lambda, Cognito, S3, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, and AWS SDK.
  • Experience with performance and scalability testing, and familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and modern test execution infrastructure.
  • Ability to evaluate, select, and implement testing tools, develop proof‑of‑concepts, and assess emerging technologies to improve quality and testing efficiency.
  • Experience with SaaS‑based automation frameworks, test management, defect tracking tools, and automation reporting solutions.
  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, collaboration, and mentoring skills, with the ability to work effectively in Agile teams and leverage modern AI‑assisted engineering tools such as Microsoft 365 Copilot and Cursor.

Agile/Digital Experience:

  • Strong understanding of Agile, Scrum, and continuous delivery methodologies, with experience supporting software development throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Experience participating in requirements reviews, test planning, test execution, verification activities, release readiness assessments, and maintaining requirements traceability and test coverage.
  • Experience using Jira and Jama for test management and requirements traceability, and performing exploratory, integration, system, qualification, workflow, and regression testing as required.

The annual base salary range for this role is currently $130,000 to $160,000. Individual employee compensation will ultimately depend on factors including education, relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, and particular business needs.

This role is eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) plan retirement benefits with an employer match, as well as paid vacation and sick leave. Our sales roles are eligible for participation in a commission plan and our management, and select professional roles, are eligible for a performance‑based bonus.
