Principal Software Engineer – DO‑178 Software Certification. Responsible for coordinating certification activities for flight‑display programs at Collins Aerospace’s Boeing Platforms department.

Cedar Rapids, Iowa (131 C Ave NE, Bldg 131), United States. This is an onsite role for U.S. citizens or U.S. persons.

• Act as the primary interface with external customers and FAA/EASA Certification Compliance Finders for software certification activities, including documents and audit support.
• Coordinate certification activities, including project management for bidding, estimating, tracking, and reporting on technical scope, cost, and schedule.
• Identify and manage risk associated with the certification aspects of display programs.
• Provide the main point of contact for the project team on questions about processes, plans, standards, and policies.
• Apply advanced knowledge of software certification to technical coordination with multiple teams (customers, systems engineers, hardware engineers, software engineers, suppliers, safety engineers, program managers).
• Assess dependencies between domains and determine related impacts.
• Make sound decisions by weighing cost, benefit, and risk, using critical thinking and sound logic.
• Own complex tasks that may have significant project impact.
• Present information effectively to internal and external leaders, anticipating potential questions.
• Collaborate with other certification focal points in the department.
• Mentor team members and foster development in certification, systems engineering, software engineering, and process compliance.
• Champion creation of training materials and knowledge‑transfer opportunities.
• Assist with other software engineering tasks (requirements capture, design, development, integration, verification) when certification workload is reduced.

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 5years of experience.
• 3+years of experience working with E‑UMs/TCRs for SOI audits.
• 5+years of experience with the DO‑178 commercial certification process.

• Familiarity with certification objectives defined in DO‑178B/C for air‑transport category aircraft.
• Experience with the Seattle ACO and E‑UMs from major OEMs.
• Experience developing avionics systems using Model‑Based Development (MBD).
• Experience with DO‑330, DO‑331, and DO‑332.
• Experience with ARINC standards such as ARINC429, ARINC664, and ARINC661.

USD 107,500 – 204,500 annually.
