Job description

Modern Construction Services is a fast-growing commercial construction and facilities maintenance company built on accountability, craftsmanship, and results. We execute complex projects with precision, and we expect the same discipline, organization, and attention to detail internally. Our teams are highly proficient professionals who take pride in delivering exceptional outcomes - on every project, every time.
As we scale, we are strengthening our internal operations and leadership structure to support the next phase of growth. This is not about filling seats. It is about building a company that operates with clarity, ownership, and high standards at every level.
If you thrive in an environment where expectations are clear, accountability is real, and performance matters, you will find meaningful opportunity here.
Our Core Values: Communication, Growth, Inclusion, Philanthropy, Quality, Transparency.
If you thrive in a high-expectation, high-accountability environment, you'll find meaningful opportunity here.
About the Role
Modern Construction Services is growing fast - and we're adding a Compliance Manager to keep our multi-state operations legally sound and audit-ready. This role leads our corporate compliance efforts, with a strong emphasis on legal compliance, contract review, and state-level regulatory requirements.
You'll operate at the intersection of legal, finance, and operations: maintaining licenses, managing compliance portals, reviewing contracts with precision, and building the systems that keep us protected as we scale. If you're methodical, calm under pressure, and never leave a detail unverified, you'll thrive here.
This is a high-visibility individual contributor role where you'll build controls, strengthen processes, and proactively safeguard the business.
This role is on-site in Charlotte, NC. Remote work is not available due to the sensitive financial, legal, and licensing documentation handled.
Compensation: $125,000 - $145,000 Base Salary + Company Performance Bonus
Key Responsibilities
• Manage and oversee all aspects of corporate compliance, including state registrations, licensing, and regulatory filings
Lead compliance activities related to Secretary of State filings, corporate entity management (LLCs, corporations), and multi-state licensing
Review, analyze, and support contracts and legal agreements to ensure compliance with regulatory and business requirements
Maintain compliance with state and local regulations, ensuring timely renewals and accurate filings
Handle and safeguard sensitive and confidential information, including financial data and personally identifiable information (PII)
Partner cross-functionally with leadership to ensure compliance standards are embedded in business operations
Monitor regulatory changes and proactively update internal processes to remain compliant
Develop and maintain documentation, policies, and procedures related to compliance activities
Requirements
We're seeking a Compliance Manager with a strong legal foundation and the discipline to manage complex, multi-state regulatory work.
  • JD strongly preferred; Bachelor's degree required in legal studies, paralegal studies, business administration, or a related field
  • 5+ years in legal, corporate compliance, or regulatory roles
  • Strong background in contract review and legal documentation
  • Experience with state licensing, Secretary of State filings, and multi-entity corporate compliance
  • Prior experience in legal environments (paralegal, legal compliance, corporate legal support)
  • Trusted to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to interpret regulatory requirements
  • Law firm or in-house legal experience is a plus
  • Skilled in Microsoft 365 and comfortable navigating compliance portals
  • Experience with compliance software is a bonus
  • Highly organized, process-driven, and proactive in preventing issues before they surface

Physical Requirements
This role is primarily office-based and requires use of standard office equipment (computer, multi-line phone, scanner, printer, filing systems). The position requires extended periods of sitting, reading, and screen-based work. Occasional visits to project sites or government offices may be required. Ability to lift up to 15 lbs may be required.
Equal Employment Opportunity
Modern Construction Services is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer. We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply and do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
Benefits
  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Retirement Plan (401k, IRA)
  • Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
