Job description

ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ. This position requires the employee to be a professing Christian and to be willing to support the Christian mission of ACU.
The Assistant Softball Coach will assist in all aspects of the Abilene Christian University softball program and support the team's mission of competing for championships in the United Conference while developing student-athletes academically, athletically, spiritually, and personally. This position will help foster a culture rooted in excellence, integrity, discipline, toughness, selflessness, and servant leadership. Responsibilities include recruiting, coaching, player development, scouting, travel coordination, camp operations, administrative duties, and ensuring compliance with NCAA, conference, and university policies.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting team practices, individual workouts, skill development sessions, and game preparation;
  • Attend and actively participate in all team practices, competitions, and meetings
  • Assist in all aspects of recruiting for a highly competitive NCAA Division I softball program, including identifying prospects, building relationships with athletes, families, and coaches, coordinating recruiting communications, and executing recruiting visits;
  • Support the development of student-athletes on and off the field while reinforcing the program's standards, culture, and core values;
  • Assist with opponent scouting, video analysis, game planning, and player evaluations;
  • Collaborate with Academic Support staff to monitor and promote the academic success and overall well-being of student-athletes;
  • Assist with team travel coordination, equipment management, and day-to-day program operations;
  • Help plan, organize, and direct softball camps, clinics, and community engagement activities;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations;
  • Represent the university and softball program with professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to the mission of Abilene Christian University;

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred;
  • Collegiate playing and/or coaching experience at the NCAA level preferred;
  • Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills;
  • Demonstrated understanding of NCAA Division I recruiting and compliance standards;
  • Commitment to mentoring and developing student-athletes academically, athletically, spiritually, and personally;
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel extensively as required.
