Sports Assistant Job Responsibilities
Program Support & Officiating
  • Officiate seasonal intramural sports programs and accurately enforce all appropriate rules for each activity.
  • Instruct and demonstrate correct sports and fitness techniques to participants.
  • Answer questions related to league rules, procedures, and gameplay.

Equipment & Facility Management
  • Set up and take down equipment for practices and games.
  • Assist with inventory, organization, and maintenance of sports equipment.
  • Examine facilities and fields for safety hazards and report any accidents or incidents immediately.

Communication & Member Engagement
  • Communicate closely with the branch team regarding any issues, suggestions, or operational needs.
  • Provide clear and friendly communication with Y members, parents, and program participants.
  • Enforce all YMCA policies regarding facility use and help ensure a safe, positive environment for all.

Scheduling Expectations
  • Sports Assistants are expected to support practices held throughout the week, as well as games on Saturdays.
  • Practice schedules may fluctuate depending on the sport and season; however, Saturday availability is always required.
