Job description

Job Title: School Social Worker 
Position Type: Exempt (Salaried)
Location: To be determined
Days and Hours: According to the GEA Master Agreement
Current Wage: According to GEA Master Agreement
Reports to: Building Principal
Evaluation: Annual Evaluation by Principal
Qualifications:








  • Preferred State of Michigan full approval in School Social Work
  • Masters in Social Work from accredited university with a School Social Work concentration, with demonstrated knowledge and competency in:
    • Child psychopathology
    • Diagnosis, assessment and testing
    • Educational disabilities and their impact on children and families
    • The practice of social work in educational settings
  • Proficient in computer applications, word processing, spreadsheets, and other educational technology
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable


Essential Job Functions:

  • Demonstrate exceptional personnel characteristics to work effectively with children, parents, staff and other professionals
  • Exceptional knowledge and experience with special education procedures related to MARSE and IDEA, of psychiatric conditions and behavioral responses
  • Knowledge of exceptional positive student supports, peer to peer supports, counseling, outside agency assistance, interagency referrals, transition services, and Medicaid billing
  • Exceptional ability to facilitate and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams for interventions, evaluations, determining special education eligibility, services and programs experience with ASD and EI preferred
  • Exceptional knowledge and experience with Functional Behavioral Assessments, Behavior Intervention Plans, Crisis Intervention Plans, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, and in evaluating the progress of students in responding to interventions
  • Exceptional ability in maintaining compliance with IEPs for students on caseload and Medicaid, and in other mandates required by the State, Federal and District must be maintained in a timely manner
  • Support building and district-wide PBIS processes, and support staff in effectively implementing PBIS processes in the school setting
  • Fulfill professional responsibilities that are required by the school district and/or State of Michigan, and maintaining ongoing continuing education for continue licensure
  • Any alternative to the above which the Board of Education, Principal, and Special Education Director may find appropriate including other duties as assigned


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk over extended periods of time
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a work day, and to sit/stand several times in short periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and transport heavy items.
