Job description
This role will build and lead a next-generation science-based capability that decodes purchasing behavior, transforms insight into commercial advantage, and embeds evidence-based decision making into how we create value with retail and customer partners.
This Director of Shopper Science & Insights will serve as the bridge between shopper insights, advanced analytics, behavioral science, customer loyalty data, and omnichannel commerce. By integrating custom research, syndicated data, retailer loyalty assets, and innovative analytical approaches, the Director will deepen understanding of shopper and guest behavior and translate that understanding into actionable growth strategies.
What You'll Do for Us:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of shopper and guest behavior by integrating custom research, syndicated data, customer loyalty assets, transaction data, and omnichannel behavioral signals to decode motivations, missions, decision drivers, barriers, and purchase behaviors.
- Build scalable decision tools, opportunity maps, activation frameworks, and commercial playbooks that help translate shopper insights into action and improve the effectiveness of category, customer, and commercial strategies.
- Embed shopper and purchasing insights into key commercial processes, including assortment, pricing, promotion, pack architecture, retail media, and merchandising decisions, ensuring shopper science becomes a core input into growth planning.
- Lead experimentation and test-and-learn programs across physical and digital environments, including pricing, promotions, retail media, digital shelf, assortment, and in-store activation, to improve decision quality and performance outcomes.
- Partner closely with Commercial, Marketing, Revenue Growth Management, Customer Leadership, Data & Analytics, and Platform Services teams to advance shopper intelligence capabilities and drive adoption of science-based decision making.
- Translate shopper science and insights into actionable customer selling stories, category growth narratives, and strategic recommendations that position the organization as a trusted, insights-led partner.
- Build organizational capability by establishing communities of practice, sharing best practices across markets, and developing tools, training, and routines that elevate shopper science expertise throughout the system.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum:
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, social sciences, consumer behavior, psychology or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in shopper marketing, category management, and/or shopper research within the consumer goods industry
- Comfortable with both large amounts of data, and qualitative insight, iterations with research and technology partners and able to design effective and efficient insight programs to address business questions
Preferred:
- Master's Degree in social science, Master of Marketing Research (MMR), Business Administration, or related field
- Advanced analytic and communication skills
- 12+ years of category management, shopper insights, and/or futures & trends analysis
Functional Skills:
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze large amounts of quantitative and qualitative data to identify patterns, opportunities, and gaps, and integrate across disparate data sources. Working knowledge of analytic approaches - such as shopper segmentation, basic statistics, indices, and gap analysis - is a must.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate complex information and implications both verbally, in interactions with senior customer leaders, and in written presentations, utilizing "storytelling techniques" to communicate a clear, compelling, and cohesive story. Must be able to translate technical/ market research information into compelling business implications and call to action/ recommendation to the business.
- Custom Research: Ability to develop and direct custom research projects; ability to interpret and explain data to customers/bottlers in a way that is meaningful to their business needs.
- Marketing Research Knowledge: Knowledge of industry and customer research resources (e.g., Nielsen, customer loyalty card/POS data, proprietary research), KO proprietary resources (e.g., iSHOP, DINE, Bev360, CBL) and a basic knowledge of methods for gathering information and commercializing findings
- Business Consulting Skills: Ability to identify opportunities and gaps for both Coca-Cola and Retail and On-Premise channel customers via a holistic understanding of business fundamentals and application of quantitative and qualitative shopper insights. Creative problem-solving skills are a must.
- Collaboration: Ability to facilitate and accelerate business relationships based upon an understanding of customers' business needs and Coca-Cola's capabilities. Includes the ability to actively listen and engage in conversations with Revenue Growth Management, Category Leadership, Customer Organization, and Bottling System to uncover relevant information, resources, and solutions.
- Synthesis and Storytelling: Communicate, influence, and convince stakeholders through a structured, fact base and action-oriented storytelling
- Business Planning: Ability to identify key business objectives and strategies and make significant contributions to customer-specific annual business plans.
