What is a social media strategist?

A social media strategist develops marketing campaigns for a company's social media department. As a social media strategist, you identify target demographics and create posts and other types of online content to engage with customers through platforms like Facebook and Twitter. An example of a social media marketing campaign is a contest featuring a product or service as the prize. Social media strategists determine how the company engages with customers on social media; some may push product promotion while others may focus on customer engagement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a social media strategist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Social Media Strategist, you need expertise in content creation, analytics, and digital marketing, typically supported by a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with social media management tools like Hootsuite or Sprout Social, as well as analytic platforms such as Google Analytics and Facebook Insights, is essential.
