Job description

Description:

A storied sports franchise…a world class arena…the best fans…

AND YOU

Original – Authentic – Vibrant – Attainable

Our Game Plan

The New York Islanders Hockey Club is one of the most iconic franchises in professional sports, with a deeply passionate and loyal fan base that is second to none. Built on a Dynasty in the 1980’s with four straight Stanley Cup Championships and 19 consecutive playoff series wins, our history has defined a legacy that remains untouched in professional sports. That legacy inspires us to leave our mark in the sports, entertainment, and cultural landscape.

In 2021, the New York Islanders moved to our new permanent home, UBS Arena. This state-of-the-art venue, which was built for hockey and made for music, is nestled within the historic Belmont Park – a storied landmark of New York. UBS Arena features best in class facilities and amenities, including premium suites, clubs, and lounges that offer boutique hospitality to elevate the guest experience. UBS Arena is part of a larger redevelopment project at Belmont Park, which aims to transform the area into a vibrant entertainment destination with the opening of Belmont Park Village in 2024 and the new Belmont Park Racetrack in 2026.

How to Make the Team

The Coordinator, Digital & Social Media will play a key role in shaping and delivering editorial and multimedia content across the Islanders’ website, mobile app, and social media. Reporting to the Digital Director, this position is responsible for writing, editing, producing, and publishing social and digital content that brings fans inside the game, the locker room, and beyond. The ideal candidate has a passion for sports journalism and digital media, along with experience in multimedia storytelling and social media publishing.

To Apply

Show Us You Can

  • Write, edit, and publish editorial content including game recaps, player features, news stories, and community spotlights
  • Collaborate with multiple departments and stakeholders to create, copy-edit, and publish social media content across the Islanders' official Facebook, Instagram, X, Threads, and TikTok pages
  • Create and publish social first content, including photography, videography, and short form video
  • Research and present new social media trends, pop culture references and opportunities to create buzzworthy content on social media
  • Assist with event and game coverage for Islanders social media and digital channels
  • Upload and manage content across the team’s website and mobile app using NHL CMS tools, ensuring clean formatting, correct tagging, and proper placement on the website and app
  • Write and optimize SEO-and-AEO-friendly headlines, subheads, and metadata for editorial content to maximize search visibility and discoverability on web and app
  • Serve as an in-game editorial publisher, delivering real-time recaps, game story updates, and breaking news to the website and app during live game action and other Islanders events
  • Maintain and coordinate the editorial calendar across the website and app, sequencing news, features, and long-form storytelling around the game and publishing schedule
  • Maintain the social media content calendar and posting schedule to maximize the impact and timing of every post
  • Execute community management across all social platforms, including monitoring fan sentiment, flagging ticketing/purchasing issues, and managing the Islanders' social inboxes
  • Maintain a consistent voice and tone that reflects the Islanders brand, with an emphasis on storytelling and fan engagement, adhering to AP Style and the team’s editorial style guide
  • Track and report on content performance across the website, app and social platforms to inform future strategy

Your Training & Talent

  • 1–3 years of experience in digital media, editorial, social media or sports communications
  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit sharp, engaging content under tight deadlines
  • High proficiency in Facebook, X, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, other emerging platforms
  • Ability to shoot and edit photography
  • Experience working in CMS platforms and Adobe Suite including Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field
  • Strong writing, editing, and headline-writing abilities with a clear understanding of sports storytelling and familiarity with AP Style
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple assignments in a deadline-driven environment
  • Team player with excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Passion for hockey and a deep understanding of the NHL landscape
  • Comfortable working flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and game nights as needed
  • Ability to work on-site at UBS Arena and the Islanders’ practice facility, and to travel locally as required
