What is a social director?

A social director or social media director is a multi-faceted position that is in charge of developing content for the social media of a company. You use your branding skills to ensure that your employer’s accounts are performing adequately. As the social media director, you may not write or post any of the content directly. Instead, you have a team of social media managers and content producers that you supervise. On a typical day, your job duties include going over materials from others on their team to decide what should go up and what should wait. You must research information on current social media trends to ensure you are taking full advantage of these outlets. This is a career for a customer-minded and creative individual, but because it is versatile, candidates may need a variety of experience levels and qualifications.

How does a social director typically collaborate with other departments to plan successful events?

A Social Director regularly works alongside marketing, facilities, and communications teams to coordinate and execute events that align with the organization's goals. This collaboration involves brainstorming event themes, managing logistics, and ensuring consistent communication across departments. The role often requires balancing creative ideas with practical constraints, making teamwork and adaptability essential for delivering memorable and effective events. Clear communication and regular check-ins with other departments are key to addressing challenges and ensuring smooth event execution.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a social director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Social Director, you need strong event planning, organizational, and leadership abilities, typically supported by a degree in hospitality, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with event management software, budgeting tools, and social media platforms is often required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities help build engaging programs and positive relationships. These skills ensure successful events, foster community engagement, and enhance the overall experience for participants.

Job description

We are seeking a fast-paced, highly creative, and organized Social Media Coordinator to join our agency team. In this role, you will manage day-to-day social media operations for a diverse portfolio of clients. You will serve as the bridge between client goals and creative execution—handling everything from content scheduling and community management to tracking metrics and drafting client-facing performance reports. If you love variety, thrive under deadlines, and can seamlessly switch between different brand voices, you’ll fit right in.

This position is Part-Time and In Person at our office locations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Multi-Brand Content Management: Coordinate, schedule, and publish daily content across multiple client social media accounts, ensuring 100% accuracy and strict adherence to individual brand guidelines.
  • Content Creation: Conceptualize, produce, edit, and publish high-quality daily content (engaging copy, vertical video, graphics) that fosters connection and encourages audience action. Collaborate with internal designers, copywriters, and video editors to produce high-quality social assets (graphics, reels, TikToks, and copy).
  • Campaign Scheduling: Own the multi-channel editorial calendar, ensuring a consistent and strategic publishing cadence.
  • Community Engagement: Actively monitor and moderate client social channels—responding to comments, managing direct messages.
  • Client Reporting: Gather and analyze data from various social platforms to help build comprehensive monthly performance reports, highlighting key wins, engagement metrics, and strategic recommendations for clients.
  • Trend Spotting: Keep a constant pulse on trending audio, viral formats, and algorithm changes across TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedIn to proactively pitch fresh content ideas for our client roster.
  • Account Coordination: Support the Project Management team by tracking client feedback, managing approval workflows, and ensuring editorial calendars are updated and approved on time.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Agency Agility: Proven ability to manage multiple projects, switch between distinct brand voices, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Platform Fluency: In-depth knowledge of business management tools across major social networks (Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook).
  • Social Tech Stack: Experience using social media scheduling and listening tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Loomly, Later, or HubSpot) and project management software (e.g., Teamwork, Asana, ClickUp, or Monday.com).
  • Basic Content Creation: Hands-on experience with quick-turn creative tools like Canva and CapCut to create, edit videos and on-the-go content capturing.
  • Client-Facing Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable and professional when communicating with client contacts and internal stakeholders.
  • Organization & Detail: Exceptional proofreading skills and an eagle-eye view for detail—because typos on a client's page are a no-go.

Analytical Mindset:
Comfortable diving into social analytics platforms to turn raw data into actionable content strategies.

Communication:
Strong interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration and public-facing community management.
