Job description

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

  • Provides pastoral/spiritual care to patients, families, visitors and staff. Responsible for crisis ministry/intervention, bereavement services, and sacramental needs of patients.

SUPERVISION: Reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Is knowledgeable of and actively participates with implementation of policies and guidelines in the department.
  • Actively participates in the department/hospital cost saving and productivity initiatives.
  • Attends required departmental meetings.
  • Complies with departmental infection prevention and control policies.
  • Dress and general appearance meets department policy.
  • Protects patient information and maintains confidentiality.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Master of Divinity from an accredited seminary.
  • One year pastoral experience.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • 4 units of Residency in an approved course of Clinical Pastoral Education; Maintains required number of continuing education units as defined by denomination.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak intelligible English; Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers and other medical personnel. Ability to lead and coordinate prayer.
  • Requires emotional stability and resilience; Must be adaptable to change, be decisive and demonstrate foresight; Exhibits organizational and leadership ability.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Work may require a variety of physical activities such as standing, walking, bending, stooping.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
