2026-2027 School Year

POSITION: Exploring College and Careers 5th and 6th Grade District Teacher

LOCATION: Block Middle School

Reports to: District Career Coaches/Building Principals

Job Goal: The Exploring College & Careers Teacher provides engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction for students in grades 5–6 through an allied arts model. This teacher helps students begin exploring their interests, strengths, career pathways, and postsecondary opportunities while building future-ready skills. Instruction includes career awareness, goal setting, leadership, financial literacy, employability skills, and digital portfolio development using tools such as SchooLinks. SchooLinks supports elementary career exploration, goal setting, and student portfolio features.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors of Arts Degree

Valid Indiana Teaching Certification

Duties and Responsibilities:

● Assure compliance with all State Department laws and all Board of Education policies and regulations of the Superintendent relating to transportation

● Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district

● Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil

● Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences

● Assess and modify instruction for students not mastering state and local standards

● Determine accommodations and methods of teaching and grading a student’s progress

● Experience in Skyward student management

● Provide consultation to colleagues when needed

● Communicates regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences and etc

● Established and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere

● Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth; keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports

● Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans

● Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day

● Plans and coordinates the work of paraprofessionals, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips

● Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student

● Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays interest centers and exhibits of student’s work

● Collaborate with teachers serving students with disabilities: co-planning, team teaching

● Share resources for the benefit of each child

● Performs other related duties, as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school duties

● Utilize SchooLinks to support student exploration, goal setting, and portfolio development.

● Guide students through career interest inventories and career exploration activities.

● Help students document reflections, artifacts, accomplishments, and future goals in their digital portfolios.

● Monitor student progress and participation within the platform.

● Collaborate with classroom teachers, counselors, administrators, and district staff to align career readiness experiences.

● Coordinate partnerships with community members, businesses, and guest speakers to provide authentic career connections.

● Support family engagement opportunities related to college and career readiness.

● Maintain records of student progress and completion of career exploration activities.
