Job description

Reports to: Nurse Coordinator
Qualifications:
1. Experience in a school setting or working with students is preferred
2. Competent in Computer Technology
3. Holds current certification in CPR and First Aid
4. Internal candidates must have successfully completed Skyward test
5. External candidates must have successful completion of Skyward test within the probationary period
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified.
Scope of Responsibilities:
The health room assistant may assist the school nurse in carrying out specific tasks that do not require independent, specialized nursing knowledge, skill, or judgement, including assessment and evaluation of student health outcomes within the scope of non-licensed personnel while in a school setting.
Essential Responsibilities:
(These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodations). Essential functions of this position are, but not limited to, the following:
  1. Must work under the direct supervision of the school nurse and under the scope of legal practice
  2. Perform health-related technical tasks and skills pertaining to the health room as assigned by the school nurse.
  3. Must comply with relevant state and federal laws, including reporting of child abuse and neglect, and confidentiality.
  4. Implements basic first aid within the scope of the individual's training to provide care for students and staff
  5. Keeps medical records and documents in Skyward such as vision, immunizations and state-mandated screenings.
  6. Scans and organizes medical information into Skyward
  7. Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with the approved nursing technique
  8. Communicates with parents/guardians concerning daily health concerns and student visits to nursing office
  9. Informs Nurse/Principal of unusual findings and follows up with a team approach.
  10. Maintains confidentiality.
  11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and ability:
  1. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple activities to meet deadlines under time constraints
  2. Ability to communicate orally and in writing sufficient to express ideas, thoughts and instruction clearly to staff, patrons and students.
  3. Ability to coordinate work and control assignments.
  4. Ability to collaborate effectively on inter- and intra-agency levels
  5. Knowledge and experience with computer software and systems.
  6. Exhibits patience, courtesy, respect, ethical conduct and tact when dealing with all people
Job Requirements:
  1. Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, in order to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job.
  2. Should be able to perform the following and similar physical demands in completing work tasks: Walking, climbing, stooping, reaching, pushing, feeling, crouching, lifting, pulling, standing, kneeling, carrying, handling, talking, hearing, seeing, sitting and keyboarding. Able to lift up to 30 - 50 lbs without assistance.
  3. Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, and make judgment and solve problems.
  4. Must be able to establish and maintain relationships of respect, trust, confidentiality, collaboration and cooperation with students, staff members, and parents/guardians.
  5. Employee involved in a situation that could result in an uncomfortable work environment should be willing to resolve the issue with the party. If this does not resolve the situation, the chain of command should be followed in order to address the situation.
  6. Must complete continuing education requirements for the position.
