What is a ski patrol?
What does a ski patrol do?
When you work in ski patrol, you take on multiple responsibilities, primarily working to assist and rescue skiers. You may keep watch over the mountain at a ski resort or recreational facility to ensure that people follow safety regulations. You may provide emergency and medical assistance when injuries occur on the slopes. Other duties include driving a sled to reach people who need help, assisting in guest and chairlift evacuation, setting up and transporting mountain safety equipment, maintaining the trails by removing debris, ensuring snow safety to help people should an avalanche occur, and enforcing all resort policies.

What is the difference between Ski Patrol vs Mountain Rescue Technician?
| Aspect | Ski Patrol | Mountain Rescue Technician |
|---|---|---|
| Certifications | CPR, First Aid, OEC (Outdoor Emergency Care) | Wilderness First Responder, CPR, First Aid |
| Work Environment | Resorts, ski slopes, winter sports areas | Remote wilderness, mountains, disaster sites |
| Employer & Industry | Resort operators, ski areas | Search and rescue agencies, emergency services |
Ski Patrol and Mountain Rescue Technicians both require CPR and First Aid certifications and work in outdoor, often mountainous environments. Ski Patrol primarily operates at ski resorts, focusing on skier safety and rescue on slopes. Mountain Rescue Technicians work in remote wilderness areas, handling broader rescue operations. While their skills overlap, their work settings and specific responsibilities differ significantly.
