Job description

Position Overview:
The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Technician will act as a key member of the Facilities team, responsible for operating, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting facility PLC and SCADA systems supporting the Fab21 Semiconductor fab. In this role, you will ensure the safety, reliability, and continuous operation of critical automation systems. This includes calibration of system instrumentation field devices, management of PLC control panels, ladder logic, field instrumentation loops, network communications, alarm management, and SCADA systems. You will work in cooperation with other technicians, supervisors, and system engineers to ensure that all process specifications are met and factory operations remain continuous and safe.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe workplace, and performs all work in a safe manner.
- Maintains calibration of measurement systems as required by the CMMS PM scheduling system and maintains calibration logs for all measurement devices.
- Tracks, trends, and monitors operations of Instrumentation systems, providing weekly/monthly reports and trends.
- Monitors network traffic to proactively identify and troubleshoot communication issues.
- Works closely with the System Engineer to ensure control loops are tuned to meet specifications and formulates technical solutions for potential or existing system problems.
- Provides maintenance and operations support of PLC/SCADA and DDC automation systems, maintaining backup databases for all logic.
- Responds rapidly to Instrumentation issues in the field to support continuous, 24/7 factory operations.
- Additional duties based on business needs, including ERT.
- If hired for this position, you may be required to participate in and perform Emergency Response Team (ERT) duties as an essential part of the role. These duties may include responding to F21 incidents, such as medical emergencies, chemical spills, fire response, or addressing any other disruptions to business operations. If you are selected by your manager to become a part of ERT, participation is mandatory and additional compensation will be provided for performing these critical responsibilities in the form of a monthly premium.
Knowledge and Skills:
The I&C Technician must have an appropriate focus on personal, process, and workforce safety, along with a strong foundation in industrial automation and control principles.
- Ability to read, interpret, and understand engineering drawings, including instrumentation loop drawings, electrical diagrams, and P&ID diagrams.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other technicians, supervisors, engineers, and managers.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures at all times, with safety awareness/training when working with I&C and low-voltage electrical systems.
- Working knowledge of PLC systems (including RSLogix 5000), Ladder Logic, and HMI Operator interfaces.
- Demonstrated knowledge of PID controllers, final control elements, and Variable Frequency Drives, including the ability to tune PID loops.
- Working knowledge of at least two of the following: Building DDC controls, SCADA control systems, PLC-based control systems, and DCS control systems.
- Proficiency with instrumentation calibration equipment and procedures, including VOM meters, temperature baths, instrument loop calibrators/simulators, and pneumatic test equipment.
- Computer literate with Windows applications, corporate email, spreadsheets, word processing, and CMMS packages.
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when professionally communicating issues, ideas, and recommendations with system engineers and team members.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma.
- 1 to 5 years of experience in maintenance, construction, repair, and servicing of industrial automation systems, providing hands-on troubleshooting and calibration in an industrial environment.
Preferred Requirements:
- Associate's degree in an Electrical/Electronic program, or successful completion of an accredited I&C apprenticeship/technical training program is preferred.
- 5 or more years of I&C experience in an industrial environment; semiconductor manufacturing experience is highly preferred.
- ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) certification is a plus.
- Working knowledge of computer applications including Word, Excel, and CMMS Programs.

Physical Requirements:
- May spend extended hours working inside and outside in all weather conditions, and in awkward body positions which can cause physical discomfort and strain.
- May be required to lift up to 50 lbs and to adjust heavy objects.
- The position will foreseeably come in contact with sharp, hot, and cold equipment, and parts.
- Must be medically qualified to wear a personal respirator and other PPE.
- Sensory demands include exposure to the smells associated with industrial chemical operations, exposure to the sounds associated with powered tools and industrial equipment.
- Must have the ability to safely climb ladders, and work at elevation from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, roofs, or platforms, and the ability to work in confined spaces.
Shift expectations:
- All Facilities I&C Technicians may be required to work a Compressed Work Week (4-day on, 3-day off, 3-day on, 4-day off), and may be required to work night or swing shift.
