Carolina Air Care is a CAMTS accredited critical care and emergency transportation agency serving North Carolina and surrounding areas since 1986. Our assets are comprised of four helicopters as well as a fleet of ambulances dispatched by our communications center "Flightwatch" - all operating 24 hours a day
Helicopter bases are located in Burlington, Aberdeen, Goldsboro, and Rocky Mount. Rotor wing aircraft are staffed with one nurse and one paramedic. They respond to both emergency scene requests as well as interfacility transfers of critically ill patients Our ground assets are located throughout the Triangle.
In addition to the Critical Care Transport teams for the majority of our missions, we also have two dedicated Neonatal Specialty Care Teams, which care for our smallest patients.
Along with our Medical Directors, the Education Team ensures that the high standards of Carolina Air Care are maintained through continuing education, evidence-based medicine, equipment training, high fidelity simulations, research studies, and new hire assessments.
This EMT will work a full time rotating schedule. The role will transport between UNCMC, Hillsborough Hospital and UNC Chatham and also support Peds/Neo team transports. EMTs for Carolina Air Care MUST have 1 year EMT/Transport experience. Applicants without 1 year paid EMT transport experience at time of application will not be considered for this role.

Summary:
Provides safe and timely transport of medical crew and patients. Work may involve routine transport or may be performed under stressful situations requiring quick transport.
Responsibilities:
1. Communicates with crew and other emergency personnel over UHF and VHF radios, pagers, and cellular phones regarding location, patient status, and other relevant information. Utilizes the ground operator's communication book daily.
2. Completes all preventative maintenance. Ensures adequate fuel in vehicles performs daily checks of vehicles and maintains cleanliness of ambulances. Maintains familiarity with vehicle safety manuals.
3. Completes logs, checklists and reports related to activities, vehicle status and maintenance. Ensures continuity of service by participating in shift change debriefings.
4. Ensures that equipment is in a state of mission readiness. Corrects or arranges for repair of any malfunctioning equipment.
5. Maintains awareness of road conditions and entire response area, sharing knowledge of changing conditions with co-workers.
6. May serve as lead worker or take on specialized equipment maintenance responsibilities.
7. Participates in departmental meetings and programs, including Quality Improvement, Marketing and Outreach, and Safety.
8. Transports medical crew and ill or injured patients in emergency vehicles while complying with North Carolina State Law, the operating policies of UNC Air Care and Ground Transport Services, and manufacturer's specifications.

Professional Experience Requirements:
• One (1) year of EMT experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • One year paid EMT transport experience is required for this Carolina Air Care role.
