Job description

Job Summary: As a Tyro Craftsman, you'll be the newest addition to the family of 100 resident craftsman that give Silver Dollar City an identity unlike any other place on the planet. We're looking for people who have a basic knowledge of this craft, and are willing to work under one of our Master Craftsmen to perfect your trade. We are the Home of American Craftsmanship, with craftsman giving daily live demonstrations throughout our 1880's park. You'll be working in front of hundreds of guests every day, finding the perfect blend of entertainment and education they have come to expect from this deeply rooted tradition. We strongly suggest you attach photos to show us what you can do.
This is a Full Time Seasonal position from 3/13/26 to 1/8/27.
Must be at least 18 years of age.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Gives entertaining and informative demonstrations of craft, while working in appropriate period settings, using customs and crafts associated with folk life depicted in the Silver Dollar City setting.
  • Acquires information about time period and lifestyle depicted and craft techniques associated with the time and area to devise plans for authentic presentation of craft.
  • Explains techniques of craft and points out relationship of craft to lifestyle depicted to assist guests in comprehending traditional techniques of work and play related to the time and area.
  • Effectively interacts with guests and fellow employees without distracting them while maintaining a positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Proves to be self-motivated and self-directed with the ability to solve problems with minimal supervision.
  • Meets established production goals at an acceptable quality level.
  • Keeps work area clean and well stocked and maintains organization and inventory of raw materials.
  • Ensures compliance with all authorized operator requirements and safety procedures specific to the job location.
  • Follows any other job related duties requested by leadership.
  • Observe safety and security procedures; Report potentially unsafe conditions; Use equipment and materials properly.
  • Ensure proper handling of customer credit card information in compliance with Property Procedures and Purchasing Card Industry (PCI) standards.

Education and Experience:
  • One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Frequently standing and walking in uneven terrain, inclines, asphalt, concrete.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times and regularly 35 pounds.

Work Environment:
A Tyro taffy craftsman works primarily inside with occasional outdoor tasks. This role involves exposure to various candy making equipment such as: gas burners, taffy pullers, cutters, knives, batch rollers, and water-cooled tables. Work includes collaboration with teams and mentors as well as providing an engaging educational demonstration to our guests.
