What Is a Sign Designer?

A sign designer is a graphic design specialist who creates the visual elements of a sign, such as a billboard, window display, or advertisement. Your duties and responsibilities in this career are to consult with art directors and other creative designers in your department to understand what kind of sign your client wants. This may include specifications such as color scheme, appropriate brand logos, and other visual elements that fit in with the campaign or goals. You then design a layout for the clients to review. If it meets their approval, you enter production and ensure that you have taken care of all physical components.

  • Motion Graphics Execution: Create motion graphics for posts, stories, carousels, YouTube intros, and other digital content, working with creative leads to develop animated text, transitions, and branded overlays.
  • Social Optimization: Optimize video formats, specs, pacing, and storytelling techniques specifically for paid and organic social platforms to maximize audience engagement.
  • Template Utilization: Develop animated explainer videos to support product or marketing initiatives while creating reusable motion templates and asset libraries for future marketing use.

What you bring
  • Experience: 2-4 years of professional graphic design, video editing, and motion design experience in a fast-paced corporate brand or agency marketing environment (experience supporting multiple distinct lines of business or sub-brands is preferred).
  • Portfolio & Reel: A strong portfolio and video reel demonstrating deep technical knowledge of digital/print design best practices (layout, typography, web standards) paired with experience in motion and video editing skills.
  • Technical Skillset: Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite-specifically After Effects, Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign-as well as Microsoft 365 (PowerPoint) and modern digital tools like Figma or Canva.
  • Production Agility: Proven ability to handle a high-volume workload, manage multiple edit timelines, pivot quickly between competing priorities, and meet tight publishing deadlines without sacrificing quality.
  • Strategic Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills; confident asking the right questions to extract strategic goals from business partners.
